Australia’s Father’s Day in 2024 fell on Sunday, 1 September. PerthNow’s 22 August 2024 gift guide named the R.M.Williams Comfort Craftsman boot as its lead pick at $649, but that was the price shown at publication—not a current offer. The article did not publish rating data or a testing method, so its “top-rated” wording should be read as the guide’s recommendation, not a verified product ranking.
What the 2024 guide recommended
The PerthNow guide was published ahead of Father’s Day 2024 and presented gift suggestions with prices as they appeared at the time. Seven West Media disclosed that it may receive commission when readers buy through its links, and the page said prices were correct at publication.
| Gift named in the guide | Price shown on 22 August 2024 | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| R.M.Williams Comfort Craftsman boot | $649 | The guide’s lead item; historical price only. |
| Bellroy Travel Folio | $189, shown reduced from $239 | A promotion shown in the 2024 article; the offer has expired unless independently confirmed. |
These are examples of what that guide featured, not current quotes. Check a retailer’s present listing, availability, delivery estimate and total checkout price before buying.
How to choose a gift without overspending
Start with the recipient, then set a limit that fits your finances. A useful gift is one he will use or enjoy, not necessarily the most expensive option. Before ordering, compare the full cost—including delivery—and make sure it can arrive in time.

- Match his real interests: cooking, gardening, reading, grooming, practical tools or time together are possible starting points.
- Choose the right kind of gift: a physical item, consumable, experience or gift card can each suit a different person and situation.
- Check usefulness versus novelty: avoid buying a specialist item unless you know he wants it or will use it.
- Confirm timing: check dispatch, pickup and delivery dates rather than assuming a listed item will arrive before the occasion.
Ideas for different interests and budgets
Retail guides offer useful idea categories, but their listings are examples—not independent tests or guarantees that a product is right for your recipient. Target’s gift guide includes cooking gear, books, wardrobe basics, grooming products, slippers and loungewear, first-Father’s-Day keepsakes, comfort gifts, puzzles, socks and cards. Broadsheet’s 2024 guide included food and lifestyle ideas such as olive oil, wine, slides, belts, hand care, coffee plungers, hot sauce, dressing gowns and socks.
Bunnings groups suggestions into under $20, under $50, under $100 and over $100. Examples named in its guide include a Jumbuck three-piece BBQ tool set, Click 5000mAh power bank, Dremel 200-2/30 Rotary Tool Kit, Fiskars Titanium Lopper and Pruner Set, Blink HD Video Doorbell System, Jumbuck Charcoal Drum BBQ and Smoker, and a Ryobi mower kit. Product details, prices and stock can change; check the current listing before relying on them.

What current spending figures say—and do not say
In a 2026 survey, the Australian Retail Council (ARC) and Roy Morgan reported that 23% of respondents planned to buy a Father’s Day gift and that intended average spend was $135. Among respondents who already knew what gift they planned to buy, 29% named food or alcohol, 19% clothing, shoes or sleepwear, 14% experiences, and 11% vouchers or gift cards. Those category shares apply to that subset of survey respondents, not to all Australians or to 2024 shoppers.
The survey fieldwork covered 4,977 Australians aged 18 and over from 31 July to 4 August 2026. The same 2026 release reported that 35% planned to buy a gift in 2023 and 36% in 2024. These figures provide context for the later survey years; they do not establish what a particular person should spend.
