What an Amtrak roomette includes
Seats that convert into two berths
By day, a roomette has two seats; at night, they convert into an upper and a lower sleeping berth. Amtrak lists upgraded bedding, pillows, towels and linens among the included amenities. The room is designed for two travelers, but check the details of your selected accommodation when booking.
Meals and an attendant
Amtrak says private-room fares include onboard meals. A dedicated First Class attendant can provide turndown service and assist with meals and luggage. Meal offerings and service details can vary by route and travel date.
Shared restrooms and showers
Roomette guests have access to restroom and shower facilities elsewhere in the car; the roomette product page does not list a private shower. Amtrak describes a private in-room restroom and shower as a bedroom feature instead.

Station and boarding benefits
Private-room customers receive priority boarding and complimentary access to lounges at major stations. Lounge access depends on the station, so do not assume one is available at every stop on your itinerary.
Roomette prices depend on your trip
Amtrak does not publish one standard roomette fare. Its private-room FAQ says prices depend on when and where you travel and how many people are traveling, and recommends booking early to secure the best fare. The amount you see is tied to the itinerary and available fare inventory; it can change as dates and availability change.

To find your cost, enter your origin, destination, travel date and party size in Amtrak’s booking tool and compare the live roomette quote with other available accommodations for the same trip. Without those details, a sample price would not be a reliable estimate. A promotional fare announced in 2025 applied to specified early-2026 travel and has expired; it should not be treated as a current roomette price.

If having a private bathroom and shower matters, the bedroom is the option Amtrak describes with those facilities. To compare cost, use quotes for the same route, date and party size rather than assuming one accommodation has a consistent price premium.

Why the car and room assignment matter
Amtrak uses two main sleeper-car configurations: Superliners have two levels of private rooms, while Viewliners have one. The route determines which type of car serves the trip. Amtrak’s general roomette page describes shared facilities, but a separate Amtrak comparison says some Viewliner roomettes have an in-room toilet. Because the descriptions differ, confirm the specific car and room configuration for your booking rather than assuming every roomette has the same facilities.
An Amtrak editorial comparison lists roomette dimensions as 3 feet 6 inches by 6 feet 6 inches, but does not state a publication date or guarantee those measurements for every car. Treat the figure as a published specification, not a promise about a particular assignment.

What to check before you book
- Price the exact origin, destination, date and party size; a general estimate cannot account for the live fare inventory.
- Review the room and car details shown for your trip, especially if an in-room toilet or a particular layout matters to you.
- Confirm whether your stations offer lounge access; the benefit applies at major stations, not necessarily every station.
- Check the meal and service information for your route and date.
