According to PerthNow’s account, scores from sales representatives at wineries, beer suppliers and distilleries informed the vote for the best store. That describes the method reported for the award; the detailed official rules were not available in the reporting consulted.
Why Guildford matters to the business
Copper & Oak describes itself as an independent, family-owned business founded in 2003, with stores in Tuart Hill and Guildford. PerthNow identifies founder Jose Pestana. The retailer says its Guildford shop opened in 2022 in a historic building previously known as Chateau Guildford, at the start of the Swan Valley, and has a focus on wines from the region.

Speaking to PerthNow about the store’s place in the community, Pestana said: “That’s what we’re about, we’re not just about being retailers in another shop. We want to be part of something, and Guildford has shown it,” Mr Pestana said. He also said: “Being a town that’s all about the heritage factor, they’ve embraced us, they come in, and they know us by name.”
Recognition after the 2024 WA awards
Copper & Oak’s About page separately reports that the Guildford store won Business of the Year and Retailer of the Year at the 2025 Swan Chamber of Commerce Awards. Those are later, retailer-reported honors—not part of the 2024 WA Liquor Industry Awards.

A further example of the store’s links to the drinks industry came in December 2024, when Margaret River Brewhouse said it collaborated with Copper & Oak on Sunseeker Coastal IPA, released on 1 December. The collaboration is separate context and was not identified as a reason for the WA store award.
