You can no longer file a new claim for a Fortnite FTC refund. The claim deadline was July 9, 2025. If you filed by then, the Federal Trade Commission says claims submitted after February 14, 2025 are still being reviewed and that it expects additional payments in 2026, but it has not announced a payment date or amount. Check the FTC’s Fortnite refund status page for current information.
What the $245 million Fortnite settlement covered
The $245 million was the consumer-refund portion of the Federal Trade Commission’s case against Epic Games, Fortnite’s maker. The FTC alleged that confusing button arrangements and other practices led to unwanted in-game charges, that children incurred credit-card charges without parental consent, and that some customers’ accounts were locked after they disputed charges with their credit-card companies. These were allegations about the practices at issue, not a finding that every player had the same experience.

The finalized order required affirmative consent before charging consumers and barred Epic from blocking access to accounts because consumers disputed unauthorized charges. The $245 million refund order was separate from a $275 million civil penalty over alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Rule. Together, the two amounts made up the $520 million settlement package announced in December 2022. The FTC’s order announcement explains the distinction.
Who could qualify—and the dates that applied
The FTC’s claim categories covered different time periods. A person could qualify if one of these situations applied:
#1 Best Overall

- They were charged in-game currency for items they did not want between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Their child made credit-card charges without their knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Their Fortnite account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after they complained to their credit-card company about wrongful charges.
The person submitting a claim had to be at least 18. A parent or guardian had to submit the form for someone younger than 18. These eligibility rules do not reopen the process: the filing deadline was July 9, 2025, and the FTC is no longer accepting claims. The agency’s refund page has the official eligibility and deadline details.
Payments sent and claims still being reviewed
The FTC reported that it sent 629,344 payments totaling more than $72 million in December 2024. In June 2025, it reported sending 969,173 payments totaling more than $126 million to U.S. Fortnite players with valid claims filed by February 14, 2025. The June announcement described the cumulative refunds issued at that point as nearly $200 million. These figures describe those specific payment rounds and the agency’s rounded cumulative total, not a guaranteed amount for any individual claimant. Read the FTC’s June 2025 payment announcement.

If you filed after February 14, 2025, the FTC says it is reviewing your claim and that you do not need to take additional steps based on its latest update. The agency expects additional payments in 2026 after reviewing and validating claims, but has not specified when those payments will go out or how much they will total. The FTC says an approved payment amount depends on several factors, including how many people file claims; it does not promise the same payment to every eligible claimant.
How to check a filed claim or ask about a payment
- Go to the FTC’s Fortnite refund status page for current claim and payment information.
- If you have a payment question, contact the administrator listed by the FTC, Rust Consulting, Inc., at 1-833-915-0880.
- If you received a check, the FTC says to cash it within 90 days. If your refund was sent through PayPal, accept it within 30 days. The payment method is the one selected when you filed.
How to spot Fortnite refund scams
The FTC says it never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a refund. It also warns that a text or email urging you to click a link or pay to obtain a refund is a scam. Since new claims are closed, do not use unsolicited links or pay a third party claiming it can file a new claim for you. Use the FTC status page and its listed administrator contact instead.
