Eternal’s board appointed Blinkit CEO Albinder Singh Dhindsa as group CEO effective February 1, 2026, succeeding co-founder Deepinder Goyal. Goyal said he wanted to pursue higher-risk ideas outside the listed company; he described the handover as a shift in operating responsibility, not a break with Eternal.
What changed, and when did the handover take effect?
Eternal’s board announced the transition on January 21, 2026. It accepted Goyal’s resignation as director, managing director and CEO effective at close of business on February 1, and appointed Dhindsa CEO and key managerial personnel from that date. The executive transition therefore took effect on February 1, not on the announcement date. Eternal’s board announcement set out those appointments.
The board also recommended Goyal’s appointment as Vice Chairman and Director, subject to shareholder approval. That proposed board role was separate from the CEO handover and was not automatic on February 1. The available announcement does not establish whether shareholders subsequently approved it.
Why did Goyal step down as CEO?
Goyal said he wanted time to explore ideas involving higher-risk experimentation that he believed did not fit the risk profile of a listed company. He framed the move as a focus decision: Eternal should stay disciplined in its business, while he pursued those ideas outside the company. He also said his financial future remained tied to Eternal and that his unvested ESOPs would return to the ESOP pool. His shareholder letter, reproduced in Eternal’s February 2026 postal ballot filing, provides his stated rationale.

That is Goyal’s explanation, not a separately established account of the board’s reasoning. The announcement and letter do not compare Dhindsa with other candidates or say that the quarterly results alone drove the appointment.
What will Goyal and Dhindsa do?
Goyal said Dhindsa would own day-to-day execution, priorities and operating decisions across Eternal. Goyal described his continuing contribution as focused on long-term strategy, culture, leadership development, ethics and governance. He put the distinction succinctly: “This is a change in title, not in commitment toward outcomes.” He also wrote, “Eternal remains my life’s work.” Both statements appear in the shareholder letter.

In practical terms, the announcement places operating authority with the new CEO while describing Goyal as continuing to contribute at a strategic and governance level. The source does not define a more detailed division of duties or quantify how much time Goyal will devote to those areas.
Why does Blinkit matter to the group-wide succession?
Dhindsa was already CEO of Blinkit, Eternal’s quick-commerce business. Goyal’s letter credited him with taking Blinkit from acquisition to breakeven and called it Eternal’s largest growth opportunity. That connection makes the choice of Blinkit’s chief relevant to a group-wide leadership change: the board selected a leader associated with a major operating business to take responsibility for the wider company.
