Did Canoo file for bankruptcy?
Yes. Canoo’s January 17, 2025 SEC filing says Canoo Inc. and certain named subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The filing identifies the case as 25-10094-BLS. Canoo’s SEC filing
In Chapter 7, a trustee assumes control of the debtor companies’ assets and liabilities, liquidates assets, and administers claims according to the Bankruptcy Code. It is different from a reorganization intended to keep a company operating under a restructuring plan.
What happened to Canoo?
Canoo announced on the filing date that its board had decided to seek liquidation after efforts to obtain financing failed. The company cited discussions with foreign sources of capital and a failure to secure support from the Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office. What has happened in the bankruptcy case since the filing?
A third-party case-tracker page for Canoo’s Delaware Chapter 7 case lists Judge Brendan Linehan Shannon and shows an order signed August 18, 2026, approving a settlement between the trustee and the Harbinger defendants. The tracker lists an August 28, 2026 notice of withdrawal by Denton County, Texas, as the most recent filing displayed. Case-tracker page

What happens to Canoo’s assets and debts?
The Chapter 7 trustee is responsible for controlling and liquidating the debtor companies’ assets and administering claims under bankruptcy law. TechCrunch reported from Canoo’s bankruptcy filings that the company had more than $164 million in total liabilities and around $126 million in assets. Those figures alone do not show how much creditors will ultimately receive. Recoveries depend on the assets actually realized, the claims allowed, and the legal priority of those claims. The available filing and tracker information does not establish final distributions.

In a January 24, 2025 SEC filing, Canoo reported that Nasdaq staff had determined its securities would be delisted, citing the Chapter 7 filing, concerns about residual equity interests, and continued-listing compliance. Canoo said it did not intend to appeal and anticipated suspension of common-stock trading at the opening of business on January 29, 2025.
