No credible evidence shows that casinos generally pump extra oxygen into the air to keep patrons awake. Casinos do use ventilation to bring in and circulate air, but that is not the same as enriching a room with concentrated oxygen. The available studies examine ventilation conditions and pollutants such as smoke—not oxygen dosing—and do not amount to an inspection of every casino worldwide.
Why the oxygen claim is different from ordinary ventilation
Ventilation introduces outdoor air, circulates indoor air and can dilute or remove some contaminants. Oxygen enrichment means deliberately increasing the oxygen concentration beyond what ordinary air supplies. A fan, air handler, fresh-air intake or smoke-filtration system is not evidence that a casino is adding concentrated oxygen.
A 2009 National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) report on environmental tobacco smoke exposure among dealers at Bally’s, Paris and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas discusses carbon dioxide as an indicator of whether outdoor air is being introduced into occupied space. Its ventilation discussion concerns indoor-air conditions, not oxygen enrichment; its findings at those locations should not be treated as measurements of every casino. Read the NIOSH report.
What casino air-quality measurements actually show
A 2024 study by CDC authors Michael A. Tynan, Martin A. Cohen and Jeffrey R. Harris compared fine particulate matter (PM2.5) at eight Las Vegas casinos, including smoke-free Park MGM. PM2.5 is a pollutant measure used in the study as a proxy for secondhand smoke; it is not a measurement of oxygen concentration.

These are site-specific PM2.5 observations from the eight Las Vegas casinos studied, not oxygen readings or universal averages for casinos. The authors report elevated particulate matter in smoking-permitted casinos despite claims that ventilation mitigates smoke. Ventilation should therefore not be taken as proof that secondhand-smoke exposure has been eliminated. See the study in Tobacco Control.
Smoking rules depend on location
In Nevada, the Clean Indoor Air Act includes an exception permitting smoking in specified casino areas where minors are prohibited. That state-law exception helps explain why casino floors may have different smoking rules from other indoor workplaces in Nevada. It says nothing about oxygen systems, and Nevada’s rule should not be applied to casinos in other jurisdictions. Read Nevada’s statute.

The study authors’ conclusion on smoke exposure—not oxygen enrichment—is: “The only way to protect people from involuntary exposure to SHS is to prohibit smoking in all indoor areas, including in casinos.”
