On January 26, 2026, Ubisoft said it had begun discussions over a voluntary departure program that could affect up to 200 positions at Ubisoft International’s headquarters in the Paris area. The figure was a proposed maximum—not confirmation that 200 employees had been dismissed. The announcement followed a broad restructuring Ubisoft outlined on January 21, including six game cancellations, extra development time for seven games, and further studio restructuring.
What Ubisoft proposed
Ubisoft described discussions over a Rupture Conventionnelle Collective (RCC), a collective voluntary mutual-termination process. The proposal could cover up to 200 positions at Ubisoft International’s French headquarters. Ubisoft had not established a final departure count or said that all positions would be eliminated. Moneycontrol’s report quoting Ubisoft’s statement describes the proposed mechanism and maximum.
This distinction matters: “200 layoffs” can suggest that 200 people were already fired. The January announcement instead concerned a potential voluntary process, with participation and final outcomes not established in the cited reporting.
Which workplace was affected?
The proposal concerned Ubisoft International’s headquarters in the Paris area; it should not be read as an announcement that Ubisoft Paris, the development studio, was closing or that the positions were all developer jobs. Ubisoft identifies Ubisoft Paris as a studio on its official Paris studio page. The available announcement did not specify which departments or roles were covered by the proposed headquarters program.

What Ubisoft announced the previous week
On January 21, Ubisoft announced a reset of its operating model and game portfolio. Its plan centered on five specialized Creative Houses, a refocused three-year roadmap, and accelerated cost-reduction and organizational-rightsizing efforts. The company said it would discontinue six projects and give seven games additional development time. The January 21 announcement set out the company’s restructuring rationale and operating changes.
Games Ubisoft said it would discontinue
Ubisoft’s strategic-update presentation identified six discontinued projects:

- Nintendo Switch system: use motion controls with the Joy-Con Controllers to cast (classic controls also available)
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake
- Four unannounced games, including three new intellectual properties
- One mobile game
The presentation named the remake but did not publicly identify the other projects. It described the remake as discontinued, not merely delayed.
Games given more development time
Ubisoft said seven games would receive additional development time. It specifically said an unannounced game planned for fiscal 2026 had moved to fiscal 2027. The cited presentation did not identify every affected title, so there is no confirmed complete public list in these materials.

Studio actions in the restructuring
The January materials referred to the closure of Ubisoft Stockholm, the already announced closure of Ubisoft Halifax, and further selective studio closures or restructuring, alongside reductions across Ubisoft’s international network. Those actions provide context for the headquarters proposal, but they are distinct from it; the Paris-area RCC was not an announcement that Ubisoft Paris was shutting down.
Why Ubisoft said it was restructuring
Ubisoft attributed its reset to a more selective market for major games, increased competition in the shooter market, rising development costs, and the challenge of building successful brands amid stronger competition. It said the new organization and cost reductions were intended to focus creative teams and improve structural efficiency. These are the company’s stated reasons; the announcement does not establish that any single factor caused the proposed French departures.

How the January proposal fits the later 2026 timeline
The January 26 proposal was one event in a wider year of restructuring, not a final account of Ubisoft’s 2026 workforce changes. Later reports described reductions at Ubisoft Toronto in February and at Red Storm in March, followed by reported closures of the Winnipeg and Belgrade studios in June. These were separate, later actions and should not be added to the January proposal’s maximum of 200 positions.
- GameSpot’s February report on Ubisoft Toronto
- GameSpot’s March report on Red Storm
- Game Informer’s June report on Winnipeg and Belgrade
What remains unconfirmed
The cited reporting does not establish the final number of people who left through the proposed RCC, which departments were eligible, or whether every proposed position resulted in a departure. Ubisoft’s presentation also did not name five of the six discontinued projects or provide a complete list of the seven games receiving more development time. Those details should not be inferred from the “up to 200” figure or from later studio announcements.
