The $1,000 is a maximum, not a standard allowance: your actual credit depends on the specific device, its condition and the promotion available when you order. Check the live quote before deciding whether to trade, sell your phone or use a carrier offer.
What Samsung’s Fold7 offer actually gives you
Samsung’s U.S. storefront currently lists up to $1,000 in instant trade-in credit for the Galaxy Z Fold7, with a $400 discount available if you do not trade in a device. The offer is through Samsung.com or the Shop Samsung app, and the credit applies to a qualifying new Samsung device. Samsung’s listing does not establish that every Fold7 configuration or every old device qualifies for the maximum. Check Samsung’s current offers and confirm the device-specific amount at checkout; promotions can change.
The available current offer confirms the advertised maximum, but it does not by itself show that Samsung recently raised trade-in values. Treat “cranks” as a description of the headline, not proof of a recent increase across devices.
What the Fold7 costs after trade-in
Samsung’s U.S. MSRP sheet effective March 2026 lists these unlocked prices. Samsung notes prices can change, so use the checkout price for an actual purchase.

| Fold7 configuration | March 2026 U.S. MSRP | Illustrative price after $1,000 credit |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999.99 | $999.99 |
| 512GB | $2,119.99 | $1,119.99 |
| 1TB | $2,419.99 | $1,419.99 |
The last column is arithmetic using the maximum advertised credit, before tax and other charges; it is not a guaranteed quote. For example, a $700 credit against the 256GB MSRP would leave $1,299.99 before tax. With no trade-in, the listed $400 discount would leave $1,599.99 for that configuration before tax. The MSRP figures come from Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet.
How to find your phone’s actual trade-in value
Do not rely on a generic list of “eligible phones.” Samsung’s selector is the practical way to see whether your specific model qualifies and what the active offer assigns it.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
- Start a Fold7 order on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app and select the configuration you want.
- Choose the trade-in option, then select the old device’s exact model and any requested variant or storage details.
- Answer the questions about condition accurately, including whether the phone powers on, has screen damage, or is locked or blacklisted.
- Review the credit and the final order total before placing the order. The resulting quote—not the headline maximum—is the amount to use in your comparison.
Samsung’s trade-in program can include eligible devices beyond phones, such as tablets, watches, PCs, televisions and earbuds, but which products can be applied to a Fold7 purchase depends on the specific offer. See Samsung’s trade-in program terms.
Check these eligibility and chargeback risks
Condition and account status
Samsung’s listed requirements generally include a device that powers on, holds a charge, does not shut off unexpectedly and has a functioning display. It must not have disallowed cracks, breaks, liquid damage or defects beyond normal wear; it must not be blacklisted; and it must be factory-reset with personal information removed and software locks disabled. A cracked-device offer, if available, is specific to the relevant model and promotion—do not assume a damaged phone qualifies.

The checkout value is anticipated until Samsung receives and inspects the device. If it does not meet the applicable requirements, Samsung may reduce its value or assign $0. Under the listed terms, a device sent on time but judged ineligible can result in a chargeback of the trade-in credit minus $25. Read the applicable trade-in terms for the order you are placing.
Financed or leased devices
A phone with an installment balance may be eligible only after all remaining payments are fully paid. A leased device generally cannot be traded in unless you buy it from the carrier first. A Samsung trade-in credit does not pay off a balance you still owe to your carrier, and carrier rules may add restrictions. Samsung’s trade-in FAQ explains these distinctions.

Deadline, rejection and final ownership
Samsung generally requires the old device within 15 days after you receive the new one. Missing the deadline can trigger a charge for the credit. If Samsung rejects the device, its FAQ says you may be able to request its return through My Orders, but the instant discount can be charged back. A device with a damaged or swollen battery may be unsafe to ship and may not be returnable.
Once Samsung accepts the trade-in, ownership transfers to Samsung and the old device cannot be returned—even if you later return the Fold7. Do not send a phone you may need to recover. Review Samsung’s FAQ for shipment and rejection details.

Samsung direct trade-in versus a carrier promotion
| Consideration | Samsung direct | Carrier promotion |
|---|---|---|
| How the credit is applied | Instant credit at purchase, subject to the device quote and inspection | Usually monthly bill credits after the carrier accepts the trade-in |
| Timing | Reduces the checkout amount immediately | Samsung says carrier credits typically appear within one to three billing cycles |
| Commitment | Does not inherently require keeping a carrier line for a promotion term | May depend on keeping an eligible line and installment plan active |
| Combining offers | Samsung says its instant discount cannot be combined with carrier bill-credit discounts | Carrier-specific eligibility and cancellation rules apply |
A carrier’s advertised total may exceed Samsung’s credit, but compare the full economics: the length of the credit schedule, required service and line, remaining balance on the old phone, taxes and fees, and what happens if you cancel, switch or pay off early. Samsung’s explanation of carrier bill credits and its own instant credits is a starting point; check the carrier’s terms for its current offer. No carrier’s current dollar amount is established here.
Prepare the old phone before you ship it
- Back up photos, messages, files and authenticator access, then transfer data to the Fold7. Samsung lists Smart Switch, Samsung Cloud, a cable and other methods as options.
- Confirm the backup works. Then sign out of Samsung and Google accounts; on an iPhone, sign out of Apple/iCloud and disable Find My. Remove screen locks and other anti-theft protections.
- Remove the SIM and any microSD card, then factory-reset the device and confirm personal data is gone.
- Photograph the phone’s condition and serial number, plus the packed shipment. Use Samsung’s prepaid instructions and label, and keep the shipping receipt and tracking until the trade-in is resolved.
Samsung warns that it is not responsible for personal information left on a trade-in. SIM and memory cards shipped with the device cannot be returned. Follow the Samsung FAQ’s preparation and shipping guidance.
When Samsung’s offer makes sense—and when it may not
- Samsung direct may suit you if the live quote is competitive, you value an immediate discount, want to buy directly or unlocked, and prefer not to tie the purchase to a carrier’s bill-credit schedule.
- A carrier offer may suit you if its total credits are materially higher and you already plan to keep the eligible line and service for the full term. Weigh that commitment against the immediate Samsung credit.
- Private resale may suit you if your phone is a recent, well-kept model and realistic sale proceeds after effort and risk exceed Samsung’s quote. Check current prices for your exact model, storage and condition; no private-sale value is established here.
- Skipping the trade-in may suit you if selling the old phone or keeping it is worth more to you than the difference between the live trade-in credit and Samsung’s $400 no-trade-in discount.
Do not call the Fold7 a bargain just because the headline credit is large. You are giving up an asset and still paying the difference. Decide whether the remaining price is worthwhile for a foldable display and your needs, rather than measuring savings against MSRP alone.
A lower-priced Samsung route: Certified Re-Newed
Samsung has separately listed a Certified Re-Newed Galaxy Z Fold7 starting at $1,699 for 256GB, with trade-in savings of up to $580. This is a refurbished-device path, not the new Fold7 promotion above. Samsung says Certified Re-Newed phones use genuine parts, receive a certified new battery and include a one-year manufacturer warranty. Availability and the trade-in amount should be checked on Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed announcement and current purchase flow.
