March 2025 corn futures settled at $4.84 per bushel on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, down 7½¢ for the day. The decline followed the February USDA WASDE report, which left U.S. 2024/2025 corn ending stocks unchanged from January. Contemporary market reports attributed pressure to profit-taking and long liquidation after recent gains, though those explanations do not establish a single cause.
What did March corn close at?
The March 2025 corn futures contract settled at $4.84 per bushel, a daily loss of 7½¢. Pro Farmer also reported the settlement and described it as near the session low. This was a futures price for a particular delivery month, not a cash-corn price or a quote for a later contract.
The session included an intraday reversal. Successful Farming reported March corn at $4.93, up 1½¢, shortly after 8:30 a.m. CT; its after-close report gave the settlement as $4.84. Those are two separate snapshots, not a continuous price series.
Why did corn futures fall that day?
The February WASDE report was released during the session. Successful Farming reported that U.S. 2024/2025 corn ending stocks were unchanged from the prior month. Pro Farmer characterized the decline as speculative profit-taking after recent gains. Successful Farming also quoted Grain Market Insider, a Stewart-Peterson Inc. newsletter, as saying: “Long liquidation pressured corn futures lower after the USDA’s WASDE report left the U.S. corn balance sheet unchanged from last month.”

Profit-taking and long liquidation are market interpretations offered by commentators, not proof that the report alone caused the decline. In this context, long liquidation means investors with futures positions betting on higher prices were reducing or closing those positions.
What did the February WASDE coverage report about corn?
Successful Farming said the U.S. 2024/2025 corn ending-stocks estimate was unchanged from January. Barchart’s summary of the USDA report put the U.S. corn carryout at 1.54 billion bushels, unchanged month over month, against a trade estimate calling for a 14-million-bushel reduction. Barchart also reported that USDA raised its U.S. season-average cash-price forecast by 10¢ to $4.35 per bushel.

Those figures describe different things: carryout is an ending-stocks estimate, while the $4.35 figure is a season-average cash-price forecast. They are not the March futures settlement. Barchart also summarized lower production estimates for Brazil and Argentina and a decline in reported world stocks:
- Brazil corn production: 126 million metric tons, down 1 million.
- Argentina corn production: 50 million metric tons, down 1 million.
- World corn stocks: 293.34 million metric tons, down 3.03 million.
These WASDE figures are reported here as Barchart summarized them; they have not been independently checked against the USDA’s original tables. Read Barchart’s report.

How did other corn prices compare?
Other delivery months and cash prices were not the same as the March futures close. Barchart reported the following prices and daily changes on Feb. 11, 2025:
| Instrument or measure | Price | Daily change |
|---|---|---|
| March 2025 corn futures settlement | $4.84 per bushel | Down 7½¢ |
| May 2025 corn futures | $4.98 per bushel | Down 6½¢ |
| December 2025 corn futures | $4.70¼ per bushel | Down 1¢ |
| Barchart national average cash corn price | $4.50¾ per bushel | Down 7¼¢ |
