Knighthead’s affiliate Shelby Companies Limited completed the takeover of Birmingham City in November 2025 by acquiring the remaining 51.1% shareholding. A July 2026 club update about chairman Tom Wagner is separate: it does not establish a new takeover or share purchase.
Did Knighthead complete the Birmingham City takeover?
Yes. BBC Sport reported that Shelby Companies Limited, Knighthead’s affiliate, acquired the remaining 51.1% shareholding in Birmingham City in November 2025, completing the full takeover. The transaction also included full ownership of St Andrew’s, subsequently renamed St Andrew’s@Knighthead Park. BBC Sport’s report
How did the ownership change?
The 2025 purchase followed an earlier transaction: in July 2023, Shelby Companies Limited was reported to hold 45.98% of Birmingham City Limited. The 51.1% acquired in November 2025 was the remaining shareholding, not a new description of the 2023 stake. BBC Sport’s 2023 report

That distinction matters when interpreting a headline about a “new” takeover update: the verified full-share acquisition was reported in November 2025, while the July 2026 item concerns a separate club update. The precise article intended by the headline cannot be identified from the headline alone.
