The 2022 consortium
When Chelsea announced its sale on 30 May 2022, it said the investment group was led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital and included Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss. The club’s original statement establishes the composition of that group.

Reported talks in 2026
Before the official transition announcement, BBC Sport reported on 17 August 2026 that Boehly and Walter had explored selling their stakes to Clearlake following discussions within the ownership group amid a reported rift. On 16 September 2026, Chelsea confirmed Clearlake’s acquisition of Boehly’s and Walter’s interests. The following day, the ownership group set out stated ambitions to compete for major trophies and invest in the team and infrastructure in a message from Chelsea’s ownership. Those are declared priorities, not evidence of future results.
