Chris Wilder has not been shown to have confirmed Sheffield United’s latest takeover or regulatory status. The club announced that COH Sports had acquired Sheffield United in 2024. A separate report on 7 October 2026 said investigations involving the ownership structure were still ongoing, with no final outcome established in the sources available.
Has Sheffield United’s takeover been completed?
Yes. Sheffield United announced in 2024 that COH Sports had acquired 100% of Blades Leisure Ltd, the club’s parent company, from United World Holdings. The club named Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy as co-chairmen and said the new owners supported the existing management team, including Chris Wilder and Stephen Bettis. Sheffield United’s announcement describes the completed acquisition; its statement that ownership supported Wilder is not a personal confirmation from him.
The transaction had not yet been completed at an earlier stage of the process. On 7 December 2024, BBC Sport reported that the proposed deal had received EFL clearance, according to the US consortium, while completion was still anticipated. The report also noted that Wilder had called for clarity ahead of the next transfer window. The club subsequently announced that the acquisition had been completed. BBC Sport’s report covers that pre-completion stage.
What is happening with Sheffield United’s ownership now?
The latest account in the sources available is a report by The72 dated 7 October 2026. It says the EFL and Independent Football Regulator (IFR) were still investigating in connection with the winding up of COH Sports Bidco, a corporate entity associated with the ownership structure. That scrutiny is distinct from the 2024 announcement that the club acquisition had been completed.

The72 reported that Sheffield United CEO Stephen Bettis said: “I will say the EFL are still investigating it, and the IFR are, but it’s been going on for four months. It’s not a clear-cut and easy situation.” This is Bettis speaking as quoted by The72—not Wilder—and it describes an ongoing investigation rather than a final decision. The72’s 7 October 2026 report also relays the club’s position that COH Sports Bidco was outside the ownership group when the winding-up order occurred, so the owners did not believe that it triggered a 12-point deduction. That is the club’s argument, not a regulator’s finding.

No such confirmation is established by these reports. The 2024 club statement says the owners backed Wilder and the management team, while the later account of the regulatory investigations quotes Bettis. Neither is a direct statement by Wilder confirming the current ownership or the outcome of the investigations.

The available reporting does not establish a final EFL or IFR decision on the matter. The clearest distinction is between the completed 2024 acquisition and the later, unresolved scrutiny reported in 2026.
