The S&P/BYMA Construction Index tracks a small, GICS-defined group of construction-related stocks drawn from the broader S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index. It is weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization and calculated in Argentine pesos (ARS). S&P Dow Jones Indices’ September 2026 snapshot reported six constituents, with the largest representing 82.5% of the index—important context when using it as a benchmark.

What the index measures

The S&P/BYMA Construction Index is a sector subset of the S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index, not a count of every company that does construction-related work in Argentina. To qualify, a stock must first be an eligible member of the underlying General Index and then fall within one of the specified Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) sub-industries.

The methodology names five eligible sub-industries: Construction Materials; Forest Products; Building Products; Construction & Engineering; and Homebuilding. BYMA describes the index as measuring stocks in the General Index belonging to construction materials and products, construction and engineering, homebuilding, and related sectors. Its methodology groups companies by GICS classification, so a reclassification can move a company between sector indices. BYMA’s market-data page provides the exchange’s description, while the S&P/BYMA methodology sets out the eligibility and maintenance rules.

How constituents are selected and weighted

The underlying S&P/BYMA Argentina General Index covers eligible domestic stocks listed on BYMA that meet its trading-frequency rule. The Construction Index selects eligible companies from that pool based on their GICS sub-industry. The General Index page describes the broader universe; the construction benchmark is narrower by design.

Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization. In practical terms, larger companies—and companies with a larger portion of shares available to public investors—can have more influence on the index’s movement. Maintenance and corporate-action treatment follow the underlying General Index, and the published schedule lists an annual rebalancing in March. A change in the GICS classification may also affect sector membership.

What the reported constituent count and concentration mean

S&P DJI’s September 2026 page snapshot reported six constituents. It also reported that the largest constituent accounted for 82.5% of index weight. The snapshot’s 100.0% top-ten weight is not evidence of ten holdings: with only six constituents, all members are included in the top ten. These are dated snapshot figures, not a permanent composition. Check S&P DJI’s index page and current constituent data for updated membership and weights before relying on them.

The exact six company names and their individual weights are not established by the cited page text available here, so they should not be inferred from the eligible industry categories or from the broader General Index. The high reported largest-constituent weight means the index can behave more like a concentrated exposure to its dominant member than a diversified basket of Argentine construction businesses. Its narrow sector definition also leaves out companies that may be economically connected to construction but do not meet the index’s inclusion rules.

Currency and return series

The index’s calculation currency is Argentine pesos (ARS); the reviewed official profile does not describe it as a U.S.-dollar-denominated index. That distinction matters when comparing its performance with a USD-valued investment or benchmark: changes in the peso-dollar exchange rate can affect an investor’s converted result, while the index’s ARS series itself does not represent that conversion.

The methodology distinguishes price return from gross total return. Price return does not include regular cash dividends. Gross total return reinvests regular cash dividends at the ex-date closing price and does not deduct withholding taxes. The listed Bloomberg identifiers are SPBYCAP for price return and SPBYCAT for total return. A fair performance comparison should match both currency and return convention rather than comparing an ARS price-return series with a USD total-return series.

Launch date and historical performance

The index launched on October 7, 2019, and its first value is dated January 11, 2019. S&P DJI states that any data before the launch date are hypothetical back-tested results, not live index performance. A chart that begins before October 2019 therefore combines simulated pre-launch history with the live index period; it should not be read as proof that the index was available to invest in throughout that earlier period.

What this benchmark can—and cannot—tell you

The index can serve as a reference for the performance of eligible BYMA-listed stocks in its specified construction-related GICS categories. It is not a proxy for the full Argentine equity market: the General Index is broader, and the Construction Index selects only a small sector subset from it. Nor does an index return automatically equal an investor’s realized return, which can differ because of currency conversion, fees, taxes, implementation, and the timing of an investment.

  • Use it for: tracking the defined construction-related segment of the eligible BYMA universe, provided the index’s concentration and ARS calculation currency fit the comparison.
  • Do not assume: it includes every Argentine construction company, represents the whole market, or provides diversified exposure merely because it is an index.
  • When comparing performance: identify the currency, price-return or total-return series, and whether any pre-launch observations are back-tested.
