The bourbon is aged for a minimum of 12 years, bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV), and had a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 750 ml bottle at launch. That price and the planned release schedule were announced in 2025; they do not confirm what a bottle costs or where it is available now.
What is Eagle Rare 12?
Eagle Rare 12 is a new age-stated bourbon in Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Eagle Rare lineup. The distillery said it is made with Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1 and designated it a permanent portfolio addition in its June 9, 2025 announcement, syndicated by BevNET.
The announcement also connected the expression’s creation to Buffalo Trace’s 10-year, $1.2 billion expansion project. That is the distillery’s description of the project’s role, not an independently established measure of how the expansion affected the whiskey.
How old is Eagle Rare 12, and what proof is it?
Buffalo Trace says Eagle Rare 12 is aged for a minimum of 12 years and bottled at 95 proof, equivalent to 47.5% alcohol by volume. “Minimum” means the announcement does not promise that every barrel or bottle contains whiskey aged exactly 12 years; it establishes 12 years as the floor.

How is Eagle Rare 12 different from Eagle Rare 10?
| Expression | Age stated in the announcement | Proof stated in the announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Eagle Rare 12 | At least 12 years | 95 proof (47.5% ABV) |
| Eagle Rare 10 | 10 years | Not stated in the announcement |
The release describes Eagle Rare 12 as aging at least two years longer than Eagle Rare 10. It does not provide a side-by-side tasting comparison, so the age difference alone does not establish how the two taste or which a drinker will prefer.
What does Eagle Rare 12 taste like?
Buffalo Trace’s own tasting description gives the aroma as sweet and oaky with delicate almond hints, the palate as subtle vanilla and toasted oak, and the finish as rich and lingering with warm toffee notes. These are the distillery’s published notes, not independent tasting findings.

Buffalo Trace announced a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 750 ml bottle in June 2025. The release noted that local taxes and fees could affect the amount paid. This is the launch-era suggested price, not a current quote or evidence of today’s shelf price.
Where and when was it supposed to be released?
The original plan was to begin releasing Eagle Rare 12 to select U.S. retailers, bars, and restaurants in June 2025, with additional international markets to follow in fall 2025. That was the schedule stated in the 2025 announcement. It does not establish current stock, distribution in a particular location, or availability through any specific retailer.

Where does Eagle Rare 12 fit in the lineup?
The distillery’s announcement named Eagle Rare 10, Double Eagle Very Rare, Eagle Rare 25, and Eagle Rare 17 as other expressions in the lineup. It described Eagle Rare 17 as an annual fall release within the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. The release did not provide enough shared specifications or comparative tasting evidence to rank these bottles against Eagle Rare 12.
