Amazon announced on August 7, 2019, that its Treasure Truck service was expanding to Charlotte, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Las Vegas. The announcement came about three and a half years after the service began in Seattle in February 2016, so “three years after” is a rounded description, not an exact anniversary.
Which cities did Treasure Truck add in 2019?
Amazon said the service had reached 25 U.S. cities before adding Charlotte, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Las Vegas. GeekWire reported that the additions brought the total to 29 cities. The 25-city figure was Amazon’s pre-expansion count; 29 was the reported footprint afterward.
Amazon’s August 7, 2019 announcement also described the program as having millions of subscribers. The company’s release supplied its own operating figures, which were not independently audited in that announcement. For context, Amazon said 75% of subscribers checked out a new offer within 15 minutes of receiving that day’s text, and that its fleet included more than 100 trucks, vans, and kiosks.
How did Treasure Truck work?
In 2019, Treasure Truck promoted a changing, limited-quantity hand-picked item through text alerts. Customers placed their order through Amazon, then selected a pickup location and timeslot. Amazon said customers could collect orders from trucks, vans, or kiosks at select Amazon Books, Amazon Go, Whole Foods Market stores, and other locations.

The offer changed from day to day, so product examples in the announcement—including Sony TVs and smart notebooks—were past deals, not a permanent product lineup. Amazon said the service was on the road an average of five days per week and that product volume had tripled over the preceding two years; those were company-reported figures in 2019, not current operating statistics.
Is Amazon Treasure Truck still around?
No. Axios reported on November 1, 2022, that the day’s $19.99 Funko Schitt’s Creek game was the final Treasure Truck offer. Axios also reported the service had shifted to an online-only format during the pandemic. Amazon told Axios it would continue offering new deals on Amazon.com, but that did not mean the Treasure Truck program continued.
