American Express completed its acquisition of Center on April 16, 2025. Center makes expense-management software for businesses; Amex said it plans to integrate the technology with its corporate and small-business cards. The companies have not disclosed the purchase price.
When did American Express acquire Center?
Center announced the agreement on March 6, 2025. At the time, GeekWire reported that the terms were undisclosed and that the transaction was expected to close in the second quarter. Amex later confirmed that the acquisition was completed on April 16, 2025, so the deal is no longer pending. What is Center?
Center is an expense-management software company that Amex described as serving small and medium-sized businesses. Its tools were intended to give businesses real-time visibility into employee spending, automate manual accounting work, and streamline expense submissions and reporting. GeekWire described Center as based in Bellevue, Washington, in the Seattle area. Amex’s announcement and GeekWire’s report provide those descriptions.
Why did Amex buy Center?
Amex said it intends to connect Center’s expense-management technology with its corporate and small-business cards, bringing card use and expense administration into a more integrated workflow. Group President of Global Commercial Services Raymond Joabar described the intended scope as running “from program and policy set-up, to point of spend, to accounting.” That statement describes the company’s goal, not proof that the full integration was available when the deal closed. Center founder Naveen Singh framed the combination as a way to pair Center’s expense-management technology with Amex commercial cards and improve spending visibility and control for businesses. Those are the companies’ stated aims; the acquisition announcements do not quantify resulting savings, customer outcomes, or integration progress. Singh’s announcement explains Center’s rationale.
How much did American Express pay for Center?
The consulted announcements and reporting do not disclose the acquisition price. GeekWire reported that Center had raised more than $140 million in funding; that is a reported funding total, not the amount Amex paid. GeekWire’s report is the source for the funding figure and says deal terms were not disclosed.

What is known about Center after the acquisition?
Amex’s 2025 annual report describes Center as an expense-management software company acquired in 2025 and says the acquisition enhances its commercial cash and expense-management solutions. Amex’s 2026 shareholder letter also identifies Center as an acquired expense-management platform within Commercial Services. These later company materials confirm Center’s place in the business portfolio, but they do not provide a detailed rollout timetable or quantified results.
