Amazon’s grocery delivery terms have changed since its April 2024 subscription launch: Amazon’s page, updated May 12, 2026, lists a $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annual subscription for Prime members, with free delivery on eligible grocery orders over $25. Prime Access members and customers with a registered EBT card can subscribe for $4.99 a month. Separately, Amazon offers Same-Day delivery of perishables in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns, with different fees and eligibility. The option available to you depends on your address, account, retailer, items and delivery window.
What changed from Amazon’s 2024 grocery subscription launch?
TechTimes’ April 23, 2024 coverage described launch terms of a $10 monthly subscription and a $35 minimum for free delivery, with a discounted $5 option for qualifying government-assistance customers. Those are historical terms, not the latest published prices. Amazon’s subscription page, updated May 12, 2026, lists different rates and a $25 delivery threshold. TechTimes’ April 2024 article and Amazon’s grocery page provide the respective dated terms.
What does the grocery subscription cost now?
Amazon’s published terms as of May 12, 2026 are:
| Customer category | Subscription price | Delivery threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Prime members | $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually | Unlimited delivery on grocery orders over $25 |
| Prime Access members and customers with a registered EBT card | $4.99 monthly | Unlimited delivery on grocery orders over $25 |
Amazon also lists a free 30-day trial for all customers. Check the terms shown for your account before enrolling, since published offers and local availability can change. The subscription covers eligible orders from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and participating local grocery and specialty retailers.
Included delivery and pickup features
- One-hour delivery windows at no extra cost where available.
- Free 30-minute pickup on orders of any size.
- Priority access to weekly recurring reservations, subject to availability.
Amazon says the subscription can pay for itself in as little as one monthly delivery from Whole Foods or one Amazon Fresh order under $50. That is Amazon’s calculation; whether it works for you depends on local delivery fees and how often you order.

How Same-Day fresh grocery delivery differs
Same-Day delivery of perishables is a separate access path from the optional grocery subscription. Amazon’s 2025 launch announcement said the service was initially available in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns, with a goal of exceeding 2,300 by year-end. A later Amazon update reported availability in over 2,300 cities and towns and said further expansion was planned during 2026. Amazon says customers can add produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen foods to a cart with other Amazon goods. Amazon’s Same-Day grocery update describes the later reach and fees; its launch announcement gives the initial rollout details.
| Same-Day customer type | Order amount | Fee listed by Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Prime member | Over $25 | Free in most areas |
| Prime member | Below $25 | $2.99 |
| Customer without Prime | Any order size | $12.99 |
These are the fees in Amazon’s update, not a guarantee for every address or a substitute for checking checkout. Same-Day charges are distinct from the grocery subscription price and its delivery threshold.

What Amazon says about freshness
Amazon says groceries displaying its Freshness Guarantee badge will be made right if they do not arrive as expected. In its earlier Same-Day announcement, Amazon also described temperature-controlled fulfillment, a six-point quality check and insulated bags for temperature-sensitive groceries. These are Amazon’s stated practices and guarantee; check the item listing and current terms for applicability.
Can you get Amazon grocery delivery without Prime?
Amazon announced that Amazon Fresh grocery delivery and free pickup would be open to all customers in U.S. locations where Amazon Fresh is available to Prime members. It also said Whole Foods delivery and pickup would soon expand to non-Prime customers. Amazon cited more than 3,500 cities and towns as the potential Whole Foods reach once that rollout is fully launched—not as confirmation that every location is already covered. Amazon’s non-Prime expansion announcement sets out those conditions.

How to check availability and decide whether to subscribe
- Enter your delivery address on Amazon’s grocery page and review which services and retailers appear for that location.
- Compare the subscription offer shown for your account with the fees on the orders you actually place. Include the $25 threshold and any local delivery charges in the calculation.
- Check whether you want subscription delivery and pickup benefits, Same-Day perishables, or both. They are related services, but their fees and windows are not interchangeable.
- Before placing an order, verify item eligibility, the available window, pickup or delivery option, and final charge at checkout.
Amazon has also reported more than 30% growth in perishable selection since August and a 30-times increase in Same-Day perishable grocery sales since January in its 2025 performance update. In its 2025 annual shareholder letter filed with the SEC in 2026, Amazon reported over $150 billion in gross grocery sales for 2025 and more than 40 times growth in perishable sales since introducing perishables to Same-Day delivery in early 2025. These are company-reported figures from different reporting contexts and dates, not independent measurements. Amazon’s operating update and its 2025 annual letter filed with the SEC contain the respective figures.
