At the time, Amazon described it as a leading online fabric store offering custom-measured and cut fabrics, patterns, sewing tools, and accessories for apparel, quilting, and home-decor projects. Amazon spokesperson Betsy Harden gave this prepared explanation to the Associated Press: “As part of our regular business planning, we continually evaluate the progress and potential of our offerings and have made the decision to close Fabric.com.” The AP report also discussed the decision in the context of Amazon’s cost-cutting efforts and economic concerns; those were contextual observations, not details in Harden’s statement. What happened to Fabric.com’s Kennesaw facility?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported in December 2022 that Amazon was closing its Kennesaw facility in connection with the Fabric.com decision and that 219 workers were affected.
