Acclaim Entertainment returned as a game publisher in March 2025 under CEO Alex Josef, but it is a new team using the historic Acclaim brand—not a continuation of the old company’s operating team. Its stated priority is publishing independent developers’ original games, with funding and development support among the services it says it plans to provide. Acclaim has also expressed interest in classic properties, but that is an ambition, not evidence it owns or has revived any particular franchise.
What is the new Acclaim Entertainment?
The revived Acclaim is an independent-game publishing business launched in 2025. The original Acclaim was founded in 1987, according to the company’s official press kit. The modern operation is a relaunch of the name and brand, not the same operating team: CEO Alex Josef described it as “a relaunch, and revitalization of the Acclaim brand with a completely new team” in a March 4, 2025 interview with GamesBeat.
Acclaim’s stated focus is helping independent developers bring new intellectual property to market. The launch announcement named Alex Josef as CEO and described plans to support indie studios with funding, marketing, and public relations. In the GamesBeat interview, Josef also described publishing support such as quality assurance and localization. These are announced plans and capabilities; they do not by themselves establish the results of any particular publishing deal.
The press kit lists Marc Anthony Rodriguez as Director of Publishing and Strategic Partnerships. It also names Mark Caplan, Jeff Jarrett, and Russel Binder on the advisory board, and Eric Vogel and Phil Toronto as partners. These are company-provided listings, not a guarantee that roles or affiliations remain unchanged.

Is Acclaim back as a game publisher?
Yes: the brand relaunched as a publisher in March 2025, and its first Play Acclaim Showcase on September 10, 2025 introduced a slate of nine games. Josef said the new Acclaim would “support indie developers and new original IP” first, with legacy properties a secondary interest.
For developers, the announced model is conventional publishing support—funding and services intended to help games reach the market—rather than a claim that Acclaim itself is developing every title. The available announcements do not establish a current open submissions process, specific contract terms, funding amounts, or independently verified service outcomes.

Does the new Acclaim own Mortal Kombat, Turok, or NBA Jam?
The available evidence does not establish that it does. Acclaim has said it hopes to revive classic intellectual property, but a stated interest is not proof of rights ownership, a license, or a confirmed revival. GamesBeat reported in March 2025 that rights to Mortal Kombat, Turok, and NBA Jam were held elsewhere at that time. That is historical reporting, not a current audit of rights, which can change.
Accordingly, the company’s legacy-IP ambition should not be read as a promise that any specific classic game is returning. The September 2025 showcase instead presented a slate described as new projects.

What games did the revived Acclaim announce?
Acclaim announced these nine titles at its September 10, 2025 showcase. The descriptions and platform notes below reflect that announcement, not hands-on evaluation or confirmation of each game’s release status today. The company’s press kit continues to list the projects, but a listing alone does not establish a current release date or availability.

What is known—and not established—about the company’s strategy?
The public launch materials set out a direction, not a detailed financial or operating record. Acclaim says it intends to combine publishing support for independent studios with a focus on original IP, while keeping classic properties as a possible secondary avenue. The available sources do not establish how much capital it has committed, the terms on which it funds projects, or a current release cadence. In the March 2025 GamesBeat interview, the company was reported to have six people and Josef did not disclose a funding amount; those are time-bound interview details, not current company metrics.
For readers trying to distinguish a brand revival from a franchise revival, the useful test is specific evidence: a named game, an announced rights holder or license, a developer and platform, and a release or storefront listing. Acclaim’s showcase provides a named initial slate, but its broader interest in legacy properties alone does not confirm any revived classic.
