The expansion adds manufacturing space and jobs, but Airbus has not stated a monthly output target for the new line. Its latest company-wide outlook is 70–75 A320 Family aircraft per month by the end of 2027, with engine availability affecting the ramp.
What changed at Airbus’s Mobile plant?
The new line is Mobile’s second A320 Family line and the facility’s third final assembly line overall, alongside its A220 line. Airbus said the expansion adds 350,000 square feet of manufacturing, office and logistics space and approximately 1,000 jobs. The broader campus work also includes double-bay hangars, additional paint shops, and distribution and delivery infrastructure. Airbus’s October 2025 announcement described the new line as effectively doubling Mobile’s A320 Family capacity.
Mobile has assembled Airbus aircraft since 2015; its first locally produced aircraft was delivered in 2016. The site assembles A319, A320 and A321 variants. Airbus’s U.S. profile says the Mobile facility has produced more than 600 aircraft across the A220 and A320 families. Airbus’s U.S. profile provides those site details.
What is the latest A320 production target?
The headline number is a global programme rate, not a target for Mobile alone. Airbus’s October 2025 announcement referred to reaching 75 A320 Family aircraft a month in 2027. In February 2026, the company updated its outlook: it expected to reach 70–75 per month by the end of 2027, then stabilise at 75. Airbus repeated that range in its first-half 2026 results. That revision matters: the 2025 figure was an earlier goal, not the latest forecast. Airbus said Pratt & Whitney had not committed to the quantity of engines Airbus had ordered, affecting the company’s 2026 production trajectory. Engine supply is a stated constraint on the ramp, but the company’s disclosures do not establish it as the only one.
How does Mobile fit into the global ramp?
Airbus lists four A320 Family final assembly sites: Toulouse and Hamburg in Europe, Tianjin in China, and Mobile in the United States. The company says the production increase depends on expanding capacity across existing sites, with Mobile part of that broader footprint. Its published rate guidance applies to the programme as a whole; the reviewed company materials do not specify how many aircraft per month the new Mobile line will produce or give it a separate ramp timetable. What does the backlog tell us—and what doesn’t it?
Airbus reported an A320 Family backlog of 7,499 aircraft in its June 2026 factsheet, with around 72% of that total for the A321neo. This is a company-reported snapshot of orders, not a delivery schedule. It does not show how quickly any one plant will build aircraft, or establish that Mobile’s production mix will match the overall backlog. Airbus’s factsheet is the source for the backlog figures.
