Since April 21, 2025, Airbnb has made showing total reservation prices, including fees before taxes, the standard format for guests worldwide. Taxes are not necessarily included in the search price in every region, but Airbnb says the total including taxes is displayed before checkout.
What Airbnb’s upfront price includes
When guests browse search results, Airbnb displays the reservation price with fees included before taxes. That distinction matters: “total price” does not guarantee that the amount shown in every search result includes taxes. Airbnb says tax treatment varies by country and region, and the total with taxes is shown before checkout. Airbnb’s April 21, 2025 announcement describes the global change.
For a useful comparison, enter the same dates and trip details for each listing. Compare the displayed reservation totals, then check whether taxes are included in the regional display and review the amount shown before checkout.
What changed—and what did not
April 21, 2025 was the date Airbnb made upfront fee-inclusive pricing the standard globally, not the first launch of the feature. Airbnb says it began introducing total price display in parts of Europe, Australia, Canada, and Korea in 2019. It later offered an optional toggle in the United States and more than 200 other countries and regions. TechCrunch reported that the optional toggle was removed as part of the 2025 change.

The earlier opt-in display covered more than search results: Airbnb’s December 2023 announcement said it showed prices including fees before taxes in maps, filters, listing pages, and wishlists as well. The 2025 announcement establishes the worldwide standard for browsing; it does not say that every location’s search display includes taxes.
How widely guests used the optional display
Airbnb reported that almost 17 million guests used the optional total price display feature to book, based on company data through December 31, 2024. The company had previously reported that more than 15 million guests had booked using the feature, based on internal data through September 2024. These are Airbnb-reported figures with different data cut-off dates, not independent measurements of the feature’s impact. Airbnb’s December 2023 announcement also described host pricing tools, but those figures do not measure how upfront pricing affected guests.
