On March 5, 2026, soybean futures rose amid concerns about South American crop weather, U.S. ethanol production slipped while inventories grew, and severe-weather and flood risks were reported in Iowa and Indiana. These are historical market and weather updates, not current prices or alerts.
1. Soybean futures rose as traders watched South American weather
Successful Farming reported that May soybean futures gained 3¾¢ overnight to $11.73¼ per bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade. The report linked the move to concerns about Brazil’s crop and weather in Argentina; it did not establish that weather alone caused the price change. Successful Farming’s March 5, 2026 briefing attributed the crop-weather outlook to Don Keeney, an agricultural meteorologist with Maxar.
Rain was expected in Brazil’s Mato Grosso, Goiás, and Minas Gerais. The report also noted dry conditions in central growing areas, which could affect soybean drydown and the second corn crop. In Argentina, dryness lingered in Buenos Aires, while precipitation was expected in northern and western growing areas.
The same overnight market snapshot reported these May contracts:

In its March 5, 2026 report, Successful Farming relayed a National Weather Service forecast for storms spreading across Iowa. The storms were expected to bring large hail and intensify into Friday, with damaging winds and possible tornadoes focused mainly on southern Iowa. The article also reported flood warnings in parts of central and southern Indiana, where up to 3.5 inches of rain had already fallen and flooding was ongoing or expected shortly. These are historical forecasts and conditions, not active warnings. For present-day conditions, consult current National Weather Service alerts for the relevant location.
