The prices and weather conditions below are a historical snapshot, not current market quotes or active warnings.
Why were corn and soybean futures higher?
Traders were looking ahead to USDA’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE), scheduled for noon in Washington on March 11. A Reuters analyst survey cited by Successful Farming expected USDA to lower its 2024/25 ending-stock projections for corn and soybeans. Those were pre-release estimates, not the report’s eventual figures.

The same survey expected Brazil to produce 126.07 million metric tons of corn and 169.18 million metric tons of soybeans; Argentina’s expected production was 49 million metric tons of corn and 48.88 million metric tons of soybeans. These are survey forecasts as reported by Successful Farming, not confirmed production results.
In the historical overnight price snapshot, Chicago Board of Trade corn rose 2½ cents to $4.69 a bushel, and May soybeans gained 4¼ cents to $10.18¼ a bushel. May soymeal was $302.70 a short ton and soybean oil was 42.52 cents a pound. May wheat fell 2¾ cents to $5.59¾ a bushel; Kansas City wheat was $5.75¾ a bushel. Successful Farming reported these prices on March 11, 2025; they are not live quotes.

What happened to weekly export inspections?
USDA export inspections for the seven days ending March 6 showed wheat shipments down from both the previous week and the same week a year earlier. Corn and soybean inspections increased from the prior week. Successful Farming reported the figures below as USDA data.

The direction differed by crop: wheat inspections declined, while corn and soybean inspections rose week over week. USDA’s ESMIS index lists an official AMS inspection-report series and a March 10, 2025 release; that index confirms the reporting series existed, but does not independently establish the weekly figures shown here.

Where were fire-weather concerns forecast?
Successful Farming reported red flag warnings for parts of West Texas amid very dry conditions, based on National Weather Service maps and forecasts at the time. For the afternoon of March 11, winds were forecast at 15–20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, and relative humidity could fall to 5%. The forecast for March 12 included humidity as low as 10% and similar concern over dry, windy conditions.
The article also noted fire-weather concerns for eastern Colorado and northwestern Kansas beginning the following day. A storm system was forecast for Friday, with gusts above 60 mph and rain and snow. These were forecasts issued around March 11, 2025, not current alerts or weather conditions.
