The July 2022 Ethiopian BA in Accounting and Finance exit-exam guide lists 15 courses across five subject areas. It assigns 34% to financial accounting, reporting and accounting information systems; 30% to corporate finance and financial institutions; and 12% each to managerial accounting, auditing, and public finance and public-sector accounting. These are the guide’s reported figures, not verified current exam requirements.
What the 2022 guide is—and what it establishes
The document is titled “Identified Competency Focus Areas and Core Courses for National Exit Examination: Program: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and Finance.” Dated July 2022 in Addis Ababa, it credits Bizuneh Girma of Addis Ababa University and Haymanot Alemayehu of Jimma University as compilers. The copy located is hosted on Scribd: 2022 Ethiopian Accounting and Finance exit-exam guide.
The guide describes an exam at the end of a bachelor’s degree intended to assess learning across the program, rather than knowledge of just one course. It says the Ministry of Education planned to introduce undergraduate exit exams from 2015 E.C. (2022/23 G.C.); that is historical context in the document, not confirmation of when or how exams are administered now.
The guide’s course list and weightings should be read as a July 2022 outline. We found the guide on Scribd, but did not verify an official current copy. A related Scribd document presents competencies and course selection with somewhat different theme labels and an August 2022 validation-workshop participant list; it does not establish which version currently controls. See the related competencies and courses document.

Which subjects and courses does the guide list?

| Managerial Accounting — 12% | Cost and Management Accounting I and II |

| Auditing and Assurance Services — 12% | Auditing Principles and Practices I and II |
| Public Finance and Public Sector Accounting — 12% | Public Finance and Taxation; Accounting for Public Sector and Civil Society |
The table reports 15 core courses in total, with 82 ECTS and 51 credits. Those totals, like the percentages, are figures printed in the July 2022 guide and are not independently verified current specifications.

What do the competency areas imply for preparation?
The guide’s intended graduate outcomes span technical accounting, decision support, finance and assurance. It says graduates should be able to analyze business events, recognize and measure transactions, and prepare financial reports in line with IFRS; work with accounting information systems; and use cost and managerial accounting in planning, budgeting, control, performance evaluation and decisions.
It also describes outcomes in auditing financial statements and related systems under ISA, tax-related work, management of financial resources and risks, work with financial institutions, investment analysis, and accounting for public-sector and civil-society organizations with reference to IPSAS. These are the guide’s expected learning outcomes, not proof that an exam independently certifies workplace competence in each area.

Rank #3
For a student using this document, its most defensible use is as a map of the subjects the 2022 guide emphasized: the two largest areas together account for 64% of its stated weighting. Use the course titles and competency descriptions to organize revision, but confirm the current syllabus and any exam-specific instructions with the relevant university or education authority before relying on the old percentages.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you interpret the guide’s purpose?
The document gives a competency-based rationale for a comprehensive degree-completion exam: assessing program-level learning, encouraging accountability and checking whether graduates meet stated outcomes. Those are purposes the guide describes, not measured effects or a guarantee of how a current exam is designed or administered.
