TechCrunch reported on March 1, 2026, citing Bloomberg, that $529 million was traded on Polymarket contracts tied to the timing of the attack on Iran. That figure refers to the date-linked market family—not just bets on February 28. Polymarket’s event page displays $529,033,417 in cumulative volume across the date outcomes, while the February 28 outcome alone shows $89,652,867.
How much was traded on Iran bombing prediction contracts?
TechCrunch’s March 1, 2026 report attributed the $529 million figure to Bloomberg and described it as trading on Polymarket contracts tied to the timing of the attack. Polymarket’s event page for “US strikes Iran by…?” displays cumulative volume of $529,033,417 across the date-outcome market family. The page lists the February 28 outcome separately at $89,652,867, with the outcome marked Yes. These numbers have different scopes: the February 28 figure is not the whole $529 million.
The Polymarket figures are those displayed on the event page as accessed October 7, 2026; market-page totals can change or be rendered differently over time. The $529 million figure in TechCrunch is attributed reporting, not an independently verified measurement here.
What evidence suggests potential insider trading on Polymarket?
TechCrunch reported that analytics firm Bubblemaps SA identified six newly created accounts that collectively made about $1 million by correctly betting that the United States would strike Iran by February 28. That is an account-pattern finding attributed to Bubblemaps through TechCrunch, not proof that the traders had access to non-public information.

The report said the pattern could indicate insider trading, while also noting that the bets might reflect broader speculation about U.S. intentions. The reported account timing and profits raise a question; they do not establish the source of the traders’ information, a crime, or a legal finding.
Why the account pattern does not settle the question
Bubblemaps CEO Nicolas Vaiman warned about the incentives created by conflict-related information and anonymity. TechCrunch quoted him saying that activity “involving war or conflict,” coupled with Polymarket’s anonymity, “can create incentives for informed participants to act early.” His comment describes a general risk, not a conclusion that the six accounts were informed participants.

That distinction matters for readers evaluating a striking win: a profitable bet placed before a major event may warrant scrutiny, but the outcome alone cannot show whether a trader relied on public speculation, legitimate analysis, or non-public information. The reporting cited here does not establish which explanation applies.

TechCrunch also quoted Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour on markets involving death: “We don’t list markets directly tied to death. When there are markets where potential outcomes involve death, we design the rules to prevent people from profiting from death.” This is Kalshi’s stated approach, not a description of Polymarket’s rules or the specific Iran contracts.
