Re:

Should You Buy AbbVie Stock Before Its Oct. 30, 2026, Earnings Report?

AbbVie’s Oct. 30 earnings report is a near-term catalyst, not a buy signal. Here’s what its latest results and preliminary EPS update tell investors—and what they don’t.

There is no clear yes-or-no answer based on AbbVie’s business results alone. The company is scheduled to report third-quarter 2026 results before the market opens on October 30, with a webcast at 8 a.m. Central. Earnings can trigger a sharp price move in either direction, but the date does not predict which way the stock will go. Whether ABBV is worth buying depends on its price and valuation, your tolerance for an earnings-related gap, and how long you plan to hold it.

As of October 7, the latest available company update included a preliminary estimate of a Q3 expense and revised full-year adjusted earnings guidance. Those figures help frame the event; they do not establish that the stock is attractively priced.

What is scheduled for October 30?

AbbVie announced on October 1 that it plans to release its third-quarter 2026 results before the market opens on Friday, October 30. The company’s webcast call is scheduled for 8 a.m. Central. The timing makes the report a near-term catalyst: investors may react before regular trading begins, and the share price could open materially higher or lower.

The event date alone does not show whether the market expects good or bad results, what expectations are already reflected in ABBV’s share price, or how the stock will respond.

What do the latest company figures say?

Q2 revenue was growing, but product trends differed

AbbVie reported worldwide net revenue of $16.990 billion for Q2 2026, up 10.2% year over year on a reported basis and 9.5% operationally. Its immunology portfolio generated $8.786 billion. Within that portfolio, Q2 global net revenue was $5.505 billion for Skyrizi, up 24.4% reported; $2.525 billion for Rinvoq, up 24.5%; and $756 million for Humira, down 35.9%. These are distinct product trajectories, not a single uniform growth trend. (AbbVie Q2 2026 results, July 31, 2026.)

The latest EPS outlook includes a preliminary expense estimate

In an October 5 Form 8-K, AbbVie estimated that Q3 acquired in-process research and development (IPR&D) and milestone expenses would total $216 million before tax. The company estimated an unfavorable $0.11 effect on both GAAP and adjusted diluted earnings per share. It said Q3 results were not finalized and could change after the financial-statement close.

Rank #2

Including that estimated expense, AbbVie gave Q3 adjusted diluted EPS guidance of $3.73 to $3.77 and full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance of $13.76 to $13.96. These are company-provided adjusted, non-GAAP figures—not GAAP results—and the full-year range includes the stated Q3 estimate. (SEC Form 8-K, October 5, 2026.)

Management’s assessment is not an independent valuation

In the Q2 results release, chairman and CEO Robert A. Michael said, “AbbVie delivered another excellent quarter, marked by outstanding execution and pipeline advancement.” That is management’s characterization. The reported results provide measurable operating context, but neither they nor the quote establish whether ABBV is worth its current share price.

What would make buying before the report reasonable?

A purchase before earnings means accepting the possibility that the share price will move sharply before you can respond during regular trading. Consider buying ahead of the report only if the investment still makes sense to you at the price you would pay, you can tolerate a near-term loss as well as a gain, and your plan does not depend on correctly predicting the October 30 reaction.

  • Check valuation at the actual price. Revenue growth and EPS guidance do not show whether investors are already paying for expected growth. A current quote, valuation measures, market expectations, and a relevant comparison are needed to assess whether the stock is attractive; those inputs are not established here.
  • Match the decision to your time horizon. A short-term trade is exposed directly to the earnings reaction. For a longer-term investment, ask whether your reasons for owning AbbVie would remain valid if the stock fell after the report.
  • Decide how much event risk you can bear. If a sudden price drop would force you to sell or disrupt your finances, taking a full position before earnings may not suit you.
  • Use a plan rather than a prediction. A staged purchase can spread entry dates, but it cannot guarantee a better average price or eliminate losses.

Should you buy before earnings or wait?

Waiting avoids committing the full intended amount before the report, but it does not guarantee a better entry. ABBV could rise after results, fall, or move little; there is no evidence here to establish which approach will outperform. Compare the trade-offs against your own plan:

Approach Main trade-off Best fit to consider
Buy before October 30 You are exposed to a potentially sharp earnings-related price gap. You know your entry price, but not the market’s reaction to the report. An investor whose valuation assessment and long-term thesis support buying at the current price and who can tolerate short-term volatility.
Wait until after the report You can evaluate the released results before buying, but the stock may move before you enter. Waiting does not assure a lower price. An investor who wants the new results before deciding or who is uncomfortable taking the earnings-event risk.
Stage purchases over time Spreading entries reduces dependence on one purchase date but does not assure a favorable average price or prevent a loss. An investor who prefers gradual exposure and has a defined allocation and time horizon.

What is still missing for a buy decision?

The business figures and guidance are not enough to answer “Is ABBV a buy at this price?” That requires the current share price and valuation, along with a comparison to what the company may earn and to relevant alternatives. No current quote, valuation multiples, dividend-yield calculation, market expectations, or peer comparison is established here, so a price-based buy recommendation would go beyond the available evidence.

Investors should also review AbbVie’s full Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, including its risk-factor section, before relying on a detailed assessment of company-specific risks. The reported Q2 product trends and preliminary Q3 expense estimate are useful context, not a substitute for that review.
