The Government of India describes the digital service as an add-on to existing submission methods. Whether you can use another route—and what that route requires—depends on your pension authority and scheme.
When Aadhaar is required
Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based Digital Life Certificate (DLC). To generate one, a pensioner must provide an Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID) and complete biometric authentication. The official FAQ states that Aadhaar or VID is required for this service; it does not establish that every conventional life-certificate process has the same requirement. Jeevan Pramaan FAQ
That distinction matters: Aadhaar is mandatory for the Jeevan Pramaan route, not automatically for every possible way of submitting a life certificate.
Jeevan Pramaan is an option, not a universal requirement
The Jeevan Pramaan FAQ says the DLC is an add-on to existing ways of submitting a life certificate. If you cannot or do not want to use the digital service, ask your Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA)—such as the bank, post office or treasury handling your pension—which conventional method it accepts. Do not assume one paper form, attestation process or deadline applies to all pension schemes.

| Route | Aadhaar or VID | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Jeevan Pramaan digital certificate | Required to generate the certificate. | The pension authority must be onboarded, and eligibility rules apply. The DLC is made available electronically to the disbursing agency. |
| Conventional life-certificate submission | The official FAQ does not state a universal Aadhaar rule for every authority’s conventional method. | Ask your PDA which form, attestation, delivery method and due date apply to your pension. |
Jeevan Pramaan says a generated DLC is automatically available to the agency electronically, so you do not separately deliver that digital certificate to the bank or post office. Generation is not the same as final approval: the certificate remains subject to approval by the Pension Sanctioning or Disbursing Authority. Jeevan Pramaan FAQ
Who can use Jeevan Pramaan
Your Pension Sanctioning Authority must be onboarded to the service. The portal lists onboarded authorities, so check whether yours participates before starting. The FAQ also says re-employed and remarried pensioners cannot use Jeevan Pramaan and must submit a life certificate conventionally to their PDA. Jeevan Pramaan FAQ

Ways to generate a digital certificate
The official FAQ lists Common Service Centres (CSCs), PDA offices such as banks, post offices and treasuries, and supported home generation as access routes. The equipment needed depends on the route and device. The current app requirements page lists Android 10 or later and iOS 14 or later; mobile face authentication uses the phone camera and does not require a separate biometric device. Windows self-generation requires an external fingerprint or iris scanner. Requirements can change, so check the official page before relying on a particular device. - Streamlined So You Actually Finish It. Ten focused sections cover what matters — personal details, medical and healthcare directives, contacts, dependents and pets, finances, accounts, and final wishes — without the dozens of categories that leave a planner half-done in a drawer. Go at your own pace, one section at a time.
- Opens Completely Flat and Stays That Way. The half-hidden spiral binding lets you write on either page without fighting the spine, and holds its shape instead of bending. Compact B5 size (8 1/2 × 10 1/4 inches) fits in a tote and sits easily on a nightstand or shelf.
- Linen Cloth Cover, Built to Last. A soft linen cover that wipes clean, premium 120 GSM bleed-resistant paper, and a clear, easy-to-read layout. A large built-in back pocket keeps important documents tucked in with the planner. All sections and prompts are printed in English.

Check validity and the deadline with your authority
A Jeevan Pramaan certificate does not remain valid indefinitely. Its validity period follows the rules of the Pension Sanctioning Authority, and a new certificate is needed when that period ends. The applicable deadline and process can therefore vary; confirm them with your own PDA instead of relying on a general date. Jeevan Pramaan FAQ
What to do if you cannot use the digital service
- Contact your PDA or pension authority. Ask which conventional life-certificate method applies to your scheme and whether that method has any Aadhaar requirement.
- Confirm the practical details. Get the required form, attestation rules, submission location or delivery method, and deadline directly from the authority.
- If you want to use Jeevan Pramaan, check eligibility first. Verify that your authority is onboarded and that you are not in a category the FAQ excludes.
- Choose an available generation route. Use a CSC or participating PDA office, or supported self-service if your device meets the official requirements.
- Check the certificate’s status and validity. The DLC is sent electronically to the disbursing agency, but the authority must approve it and sets its validity period.
What the service’s usage figures do—and do not—show
As displayed on its live homepage on 7 October 2026, Jeevan Pramaan reported more than 12.4 crore certificates submitted since 2014 and 189.26 lakh submitted since 1 November 2025. These are figures shown by the Government of India service, not independently audited measurements. They indicate use of the digital service; they do not show that Aadhaar is required for every life-certificate route. Jeevan Pramaan homepage
