Question 1: transactions and earnings
The question context combines business transactions with employee earnings calculations. For revision, practise recording transactions accurately and showing the steps used to calculate earnings; the outline does not establish particular rates, figures, or calculation methods.

Question 2: cash book and control accounts
The paper outline identifies Nyle’s cash book. Extracted text also indicates work on the purpose of control accounts and entries in a receivables control account. Treat those details as provisional until checked against a clean copy.
Question 3: manufacturing
The extracted text indicates tasks involving a manufacturing account, net sales, and accounting principles. These make manufacturing-account preparation and related calculations useful practice areas for understanding this sitting.
Question 4: budgeting and error effects
The extracted text points to production budgets for two quarters, mark-up, and the effects of errors on non-current assets and profit. It does not establish that the same figures or task combination will recur.

How Paper 02 is structured
CXC describes Paper 02 as a three-hour problem-solving paper worth 100 marks. All five questions are compulsory and each is worth 20 marks. The syllabus says the paper tests knowledge/comprehension, application of accounting principles and skills, and interpretation of data in a 1:2:1 ratio. These are syllabus format details, not May/June 2023 candidate-performance results.
The indexed copy’s instructions tell candidates to answer all five questions and show their working; it also mentions using a silent, non-programmable calculator if needed. As the available text has OCR errors, consult an authorized copy for exact wording. CXC’s syllabus advises candidates to read and plan answers; a practical approach is to identify what each requirement asks, set out the accounting format, and keep calculations visible.

How to use this paper for revision
Use the paper as a source of mixed practice, then connect each question to the wider syllabus rather than revising only the topics visible in this sitting.
- Practise the five question contexts. Work on transactions and earnings, cash books and control accounts, manufacturing accounts and cost calculations, production budgets and mark-up, and cooperative surplus and financial-position statements.
- Show a traceable method. Set out calculations and accounting entries clearly so you can locate a mistake and demonstrate how you reached an answer.
- Review the relevant syllabus sections. CXC’s Principles of Accounts syllabus has 14 sections, covering foundations, financial statements, books of original entry, ledgers, adjustments, control systems, incomplete records, partnerships, corporations, cooperatives, non-trading organisations, manufacturing accounts, and payroll.
- Use more than one sitting or practice source. The five contexts in this paper do not show that syllabus sections omitted from it are unimportant or will be absent from other exams.
- Check that study materials match your session. Compare their syllabus coverage, alignment to the applicable examination session, amount of worked practice, and availability of answers or marking guidance.
