Raspberry Pi Holdings plc listed on the London Stock Exchange in June 2024, and its shares began trading on the Main Market under ticker RPI. The planned listing combined shares sold by existing shareholders with newly issued shares intended to raise $40 million for the company.
When did Raspberry Pi go public?
Raspberry Pi Holdings plc completed its London listing in June 2024. On 11 June, co-founder Eben Upton announced, “Today, we’re proud to announce that Raspberry Pi has listed on the London Stock Exchange, as Raspberry Pi Holdings plc.” (Raspberry Pi’s announcement.)
On 14 June 2024, 193,415,715 ordinary shares were admitted to the Financial Conduct Authority’s premium listing segment and the London Stock Exchange Main Market under ticker RPI, according to the admission notice. This is a completed listing, not a future plan.
What happened in the IPO?
The offer included two different kinds of shares, with different destinations for the money:
- New shares: Raspberry Pi said these were intended to raise $40 million for the company. The stated planned uses of net proceeds were engineering capital expenditure, supply-chain resilience, and general corporate purposes.
- Existing shares: Certain shareholders sold shares in the offer. Those transactions transferred ownership; unlike the newly issued shares, they did not provide that same new capital to the company.
The $40 million figure was the intended amount from new shares stated in Raspberry Pi’s 22 May 2024 confirmed intention-to-float announcement; it is not the total value of the offer. The announcement and its planned use of proceeds are available in the FCA-filed notice.
What does Raspberry Pi Holdings do?
Raspberry Pi Holdings designs and develops low-cost, high-performance single-board computers and compute modules. The company serves industrial Internet of Things and embedded customers as well as enthusiasts and educators. Raspberry Pi reported in its 15 May 2024 announcement that it had sold more than 60 million single-board computers and compute modules since it began trading in 2012, including 7.4 million in 2023. These are company-reported figures from the IPO period, not current sales totals. The figures and company description appeared in the May 2024 announcement.

How is the Raspberry Pi Foundation related?
The Raspberry Pi Foundation and Raspberry Pi Holdings are related but distinct organisations. At the time of the IPO, the Foundation was the company’s majority shareholder through Raspberry Pi Mid Co Limited. Some existing shares were sold in the offer, and Raspberry Pi said money raised by the Foundation from its share sale would support its ambitions for global impact. That is separate from the proceeds the company expected to receive from newly issued shares. Raspberry Pi described this relationship in its May IPO announcement and account of the listing.
What did the company say the listing would enable?
Raspberry Pi described the listing as “a watershed moment” and said access to public markets would enable it to build products faster. That was the company’s stated rationale and outlook at the time, not a guarantee of future results. The company’s full statement is in its IPO announcement.

What the listing does—and does not—tell investors
A public listing means shares are admitted to a market where investors can trade them; it does not, by itself, establish whether a share is fairly valued or suitable for a particular investor. The IPO-period notices establish the listing date, ticker, admitted share count, offer structure, and stated intended use of new-share proceeds. They do not establish a current share price, present-day market capitalization, or current ownership. Those figures can change and require up-to-date market information.
