CYVN Holdings completed its acquisition of McLaren Automotive, the road-car business, on 3 April 2025. It also acquired a non-controlling stake in McLaren Racing; Bahrain’s Mumtalakat remained Racing’s majority shareholder, according to McLaren Racing’s 2 September 2025 announcement. The headline’s “almost infinite pockets” is rhetorical: the official announcements reviewed disclose neither a purchase price nor a quantified measure of CYVN’s available capital.
Who owns McLaren now?
For McLaren road cars, the new owner is CYVN Holdings, an Abu Dhabi-based advanced mobility operator and investment vehicle. CYVN acquired McLaren Automotive, not sole ownership of every business that carries the McLaren name. Its deal also included a non-controlling stake in McLaren Racing. Mumtalakat announced completion on 3 April 2025; McLaren Racing clarified its shareholder structure on 2 September 2025.

When did the ownership change?
The deal moved from agreement to completion over several months. The December 2024 announcement described a planned acquisition subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals; it was not confirmation that the sale had already closed.
- 9 December 2024: The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported that CYVN and Bahrain Mumtalakat had signed a strategic partnership agreement. Under it, CYVN would acquire McLaren’s automotive business and a non-controlling stake in its racing business, subject to closing conditions and approvals. - April 2025: CYVN said McLaren Automotive and British luxury start-up Forseven would be integrated under a new McLaren Group Holdings, led by group CEO Nick Collins, and described plans to expand McLaren Automotive into new product categories. Does CYVN own McLaren Racing?
CYVN has a stake in McLaren Racing, but it is not the racing business’s sole owner. In its 2 September 2025 announcement, McLaren Racing said Mumtalakat remained the majority shareholder and CYVN held a non-controlling stake after Racing bought out its minority shareholders. That distinction matters: buying the road-car business and holding a minority position in Racing are different ownership arrangements.

Why did CYVN buy McLaren Automotive?
CYVN framed the acquisition as part of a plan to build a globally connected mobility platform. Before the deal closed, the Abu Dhabi Media Office announcement said CYVN intended to bring together McLaren’s heritage and expertise with advanced engineering and technology capabilities, including engineering, design, leading-edge technology and experienced leadership. Those statements describe the buyer’s rationale; they do not demonstrate which capabilities were later deployed or how much CYVN committed financially.
At completion, Mumtalakat described the sale as consistent with optimizing and enhancing its portfolio and seeking sustainable long-term financial returns. These are the parties’ stated strategic aims, not independently measured results. The announcements establish intentions and ownership changes, but do not show whether those aims have been achieved.

What does “almost infinite pockets” mean?
It is a flourish, not a reported financial figure. The official announcements cited here do not disclose the transaction price or quantify CYVN’s available capital. CYVN is described as an advanced mobility operator and investment vehicle based in Abu Dhabi, but that description alone cannot support a claim that its resources are unlimited—or establish how much it will spend on McLaren.
CYVN said the acquisition would help it build a globally connected mobility platform, and it announced an integration involving McLaren Automotive and Forseven. Those statements indicate strategic direction; they do not confirm a particular vehicle, launch date, investment total or financial outcome.
