“Google stock” is Alphabet Inc. stock. In the latest session covered here, Friday, October 2, 2026, both publicly traded share classes rose. The business’s latest reported quarter also showed strong revenue and Cloud growth—but reported net income was lifted substantially by investment gains, while AI infrastructure spending and legal exposure remain important parts of the picture.

What does “Google stock” mean?

Google is a business within Alphabet Inc., its parent company. Alphabet has two publicly traded common-stock classes: Class A, ticker GOOGL, and Class C, ticker GOOG. Alphabet’s FY2025 Form 10-K says the classes’ rights are identical apart from voting: Class A shares have voting rights, while Class C shares do not. Their market prices can differ.

Where did GOOG and GOOGL close?

The latest closing prices available for this article are from Friday, October 2, 2026—not live quotes. Historical market data showed both classes higher that day, following declines on October 1. A two-session price window cannot establish a lasting trend or show what caused the share-price changes.

Share class Ticker October 2, 2026 close Change that session
Class A GOOGL $343.50 +1.56%
Class C GOOG $340.35 +1.62%

These are historical closing values; prices change during trading and after this date. The available data does not establish that a particular company announcement or investor reaction caused the October 2 move.

What did Alphabet report in its latest quarter?

Alphabet’s second-quarter 2026 results cover the three months ended June 30, 2026 and were reported in July. Revenue and operating income showed substantial growth. The reported net-income figure tells a less straightforward story because a large investment gain boosted it.

Q2 2026 measure Reported result What it indicates
Revenue $119.796 billion, up 24% year over year Growth across Alphabet’s reported business
Operating income $40.770 billion, up 30% year over year Profit from operations, before non-operating items and taxes
Operating margin 34% Operating income as a share of revenue
Operating cash flow $39.1 billion Cash generated by operating activities during the quarter
Capital expenditures $44.9 billion Primarily investment in technical infrastructure during the quarter
Net income available to common stockholders $112.107 billion Included substantial gains on equity investments
Diluted earnings per share $9.11 Reflects reported net income, including investment gains
Net gains on equity securities $99.0 billion Primarily unrealized gains in Alphabet’s investment portfolio

All figures in the table are from Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings-release supplement and Form 10-Q. The $99.0 billion equity-security gain was included in other income and was primarily unrealized. It is not the same as recurring operating profit or cash generated by Google’s services. That is why the quarter’s net income and EPS should not be read as a clean measure of the underlying operating-growth rate.

Which parts of the business grew?

Google Services remained Alphabet’s largest reported revenue segment. Google Cloud was smaller by revenue but grew faster and reported substantial operating income. The figures below are for the quarter ended June 30, 2026; segment results are from Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings-release supplement.

Business or revenue category Q2 2026 revenue Other reported result
Google Services $94.540 billion Includes advertising, subscriptions, platforms and devices
Google Search and other advertising $63.271 billion Part of Google Services advertising revenue
YouTube advertising $11.055 billion Part of Google Services advertising revenue
Google Network advertising $7.303 billion Part of Google Services advertising revenue
Subscriptions, platforms and devices $12.911 billion Part of Google Services
Google Cloud $24.768 billion, up 82% year over year $8.814 billion operating income
Other Bets Not stated here $1.799 billion operating loss

The listed advertising categories and subscriptions, platforms and devices are components of Google Services, not additional revenue to add on top of the Services total. Cloud’s revenue growth is notable, but the revenue figure alone does not show how much infrastructure investment is needed to support future growth.

Why are investors watching AI and infrastructure spending?

Alphabet’s FY2025 Form 10-K warns that AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode may monetize differently from historical consumer and enterprise offerings, potentially affecting revenue growth rates and margin trends. The company also identifies competition from other AI providers. The central business question is whether AI usage can translate into durable revenue and profit while maintaining the economics of existing products; the disclosures do not establish the outcome.

Serving AI products requires technical infrastructure. Alphabet said in its FY2025 Form 10-K that it expected 2026 investment in technical infrastructure—including servers, network equipment and data centers—to rise significantly compared with 2025. The Q2 capital-expenditure figure above shows the scale of spending in that quarter, but does not by itself establish what returns those investments will generate.

Alphabet’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q described the risk of investing in expansion this way: “Our increasing investment in new businesses, products, services, and technologies is inherently risky, and could divert management attention and harm our business, financial condition, and operating results.”

How is Alphabet funding that investment?

Alphabet reported several financing actions in its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q. They matter because they affect the company’s funding mix and, in the case of share issuance, can affect existing shareholders’ ownership percentages.

  • In June 2026, Alphabet raised $49.6 billion net from a combination of Class A and Class C stock and mandatory convertible preferred stock issuances.
  • During Q2 2026, it received $20.3 billion in net proceeds from issuing senior unsecured notes.
  • Alphabet established a $40 billion at-the-market program permitting sales of Class A and Class C shares, primarily intended to meet taxes associated with employee equity grants. It had sold no shares through the program as of June 30, 2026. The authorization does not mean the full amount will be sold.

These actions show that Alphabet is using both equity-related financing and debt as it scales infrastructure. Their effects should be considered alongside operating performance and capital returns, rather than treated as evidence on their own of a particular future share price.

What legal, regulatory and shareholder-return issues matter?

  • Accrued legal and regulatory costs: Alphabet reported $17.4 billion in short-term accrued legal and regulatory fines and settlements as of June 30, 2026. Q2 included a $2.1 billion charge related to the PriceRunner private action. Separately, the company paid a previously accrued $5.2 billion EU Android-related fine and interest in July 2026. These are different items: one is a reported short-term accrual, one a Q2 charge, and one a subsequent payment.
  • Repurchases: Although Alphabet had an authorized repurchase program, it made no Class A or Class C share repurchases in the first half of 2026. Its filings say repurchases remain at the company’s discretion and subject to conditions.
  • Dividend: Alphabet’s July 2026 earnings release declared a quarterly common-stock dividend of $0.22 per share. Future dividends remain discretionary and subject to conditions, according to the company.

For a balanced view, weigh the durability of search and advertising against changes in AI use and monetization; Cloud’s growth and operating income against the infrastructure needed to support it; operating results and cash flow against volatile investment gains; and infrastructure financing against possible share issuance, capital returns and legal costs. Those are questions to monitor, not a prediction of how the stock will perform.

When is Alphabet’s next earnings report?

A market calendar reviewed for this article listed October 28, 2026 as an estimated date for Alphabet’s Q3 2026 results and said the company had not confirmed the date. Treat October 28 as an estimate, not a scheduled company announcement; check Alphabet Investor Relations or an SEC filing for confirmation.
