The promotions below are a historical guide to what participating businesses offered—and to the purchase, app, and rewards conditions that determined whether a coffee was actually free.
Which 2025 offers were free without a purchase?
These deals were reported as having no purchase requirement, but several still required an app, offer signup, or participating location. The offers were tied to September 29, 2025, unless another date window is shown.

Food Network also reported no-purchase offers from other chains, including Bruegger’s Bagels, Caribou Coffee, Dutch Bros., Pret A Manger, Pilot Flying J, Playa Bowls, Smoothie King, and Scooter’s Coffee. Exact terms are not established here for those offers, so they are not included as claimable deal instructions. Dutch Bros. details conflicted between Fast Company and Axios: one described a free drink with a “Drink More Coffee” hat purchase, while the other described free car coasters with purchase of two or more drinks. Those accounts do not establish whether both promotions ran or which description was correct.
Which deals required a purchase or membership?
“Free” often meant a free coffee added to a qualifying purchase, a rewards-member perk, a limited-time pass, or a discount rather than a no-cost drink.

Which offers were discounts, subscriptions, or future rewards?
Several promotions were not a free ready-to-drink coffee. Some required buying coffee or another product, and Starbucks’ offer delivered a discount or points rather than an immediate free drink.

Why the fine print mattered
For these promotions, the headline did not tell the whole cost or redemption story. Location participation, membership, offer activation, ordering channel, and excluded products could all change whether a customer qualified. For example, Dunkin’s announced deal required an in-app purchase and rewards membership, capped redemption at one per member, excluded Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew, and did not apply to delivery-platform or guest orders.

Food Network’s September 24, 2025 roundup advertised 27 deals; Fast Company and Axios reported additional offers and details. The exact mechanics summarized above come from those contemporary deal roundups except where the Dunkin’ announcement is linked directly. They document what was reported for the 2025 promotion period, not offers available now.
