Neither day was the best for every purchase. Adobe’s October 2025 forecast favored Black Friday for TVs and Cyber Monday for electronics, apparel, and computers. Adobe’s later results showed Cyber Monday brought in more online spending overall, but spending totals do not tell you which day had the lowest price on a particular item. For a purchase you have in mind, compare the exact product and its full cost rather than relying on the sale-day name.
Which day was expected to have better deals in 2025?
Adobe’s forecast, published October 6, 2025, pointed to different winners by category:

These were category-level predictions, not promises that every retailer or product would be cheaper on the named day. Adobe forecast $253.4 billion in U.S. online holiday spending from November 1 through December 31, 2025, and $43.7 billion—17.2% of the season’s online spending—for Cyber Week, the five-day period including Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. What happened to online spending on each day?
In its January 7, 2026 report on the 2025 holiday season, Adobe said shoppers spent $14.25 billion online on Cyber Monday, up 7.1% year over year, and $11.8 billion on Black Friday, up 9.1%. Cyber Monday was the larger online-spending day by total sales. That is a measure of how much people spent in aggregate—not a comparison of the lowest price for the same product on the two dates.

Adobe also reported seasonal peak discounts of 30.9% off listed prices for electronics, 23% for computers, and 22% for televisions. Those are category discount peaks during the season; they do not establish that the same model was cheaper on Cyber Monday than Black Friday, or vice versa. Adobe’s January 2026 holiday results.
Why the sale-day label is not enough
Retail promotions can cover both dates. Amazon announced that its 2025 Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday event ran from November 20 through December 1, so its promotion window included Black Friday and Cyber Monday rather than starting and ending on those two days alone. A sale advertised for a particular event may therefore be available before the named shopping day, while a product’s price, stock, or delivery terms can vary over the event. For a household budget, the useful comparison is the actual offer for the product you plan to buy—not the size of a storewide discount or a headline about record spending. The available Adobe figures compare categories and overall sales, not identical listings across dates.

- Match the exact item. Check the model number and configuration, including screen size, storage, memory, or other features that affect price. A discount on a similar model is not a like-for-like comparison.
- Compare the same seller where possible. Prices and terms can differ between retailers and between marketplace sellers. Note who is selling the item, not just which site displays it.
- Calculate the delivered price. Compare the amount you will actually pay, including shipping and any applicable taxes or fees, rather than the advertised percentage off.
- Check stock and delivery timing. A lower price may not help if the item is unavailable or will not arrive when you need it.
- Read the return terms. Compare the return window and any conditions that matter for your purchase.
- Use price history if available. A product’s price record can help put a current offer in context; do not assume an event label alone proves it is the item’s lowest price.
The 2025 sources do not establish which specific retailer listings had the lowest comparable prices for the same products on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. That question requires item-level price history for matching products and sellers.
