A later regional estimate put total impact at $1 billion, but the available figures do not establish how much was genuinely new spending compared with an ordinary Las Vegas period.
What did Super Bowl LVIII bring to Las Vegas?
The game was held at Allegiant Stadium on February 11, 2024, and was the first Super Bowl hosted in Nevada, according to the Nevada governor’s proclamation. Before the event, the City of Las Vegas expected about 330,000 visitors in Southern Nevada over the weekend, including 62,000 game attendees. Those were expectations reported by the city, not an audited count of visitors who came only because of the Super Bowl.
Estimates varied because they used different scopes and measures. A pre-event forecast is not the same as visitor spending or a later estimate of total impact, and neither automatically means that the full amount was net-new income for local residents or businesses.
How the major economic estimates compare
| Publisher and timing | Figure | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 2021 | More than $500 million | An early economic-impact estimate based on previous Super Bowls, reported in the host announcement. |
| U.S. Chamber of Commerce, February 2024 | At least $215 million | Estimated additional Las Vegas spending from an estimated 150,000 visitors on food, drinks, hotel rooms and memorabilia. This visitor count differs from the city’s regional expectation. The Chamber’s estimate should not be added to other projections. |
| City of Las Vegas, pre-event projection reported in March 2024 | $799 million projected net impact | Included $515 million in visitor spending and ripple effects, plus $62 million in projected state and local taxes. These are components of the city’s projection, not separate amounts to add to the total. The city’s recap identifies this as a pre-event projection. |
| Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, 2024 | $1.0 billion total impact | A regional estimate reported in the 2024 Las Vegas Perspective. The associated search-result text also reported $606 million in net visitor spending, 330,000 visitors, 62,000 attendees and $230 million in direct wages and salaries; the underlying report’s methodology was not independently verified here. |
| Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 2026 retrospective | More than $1 billion in impact; more than 330,000 visitors | A later institutional retrospective accompanying the announcement that Las Vegas will host again in 2029. The LVCVA announcement is a retrospective claim, not a harmonized final accounting across the earlier estimates. |
The figures are not directly interchangeable. The Chamber’s estimate centers on spending by an estimated 150,000 visitors, while the city and regional estimates use a larger visitor expectation and broader impact concepts. The city’s projected $799 million, the LVGEA’s reported $1.0 billion and the LVCVA’s later “more than $1 billion” should therefore be attributed to their publishers and treated according to their timing and definitions.

What “economic impact” includes—and what it does not
Visitor spending is money spent directly on items such as hotel stays, food and drinks. A total-impact estimate may also count modeled ripple effects as businesses and workers recirculate some of that spending. Taxes, wages, jobs, hotel activity, gambling wagers and media exposure are separate measures; they should not be treated as interchangeable or automatically added together.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also cited a National Retail Federation survey estimate of $17.3 billion in Super Bowl spending nationwide for 2024. The Chamber used that national figure to allocate local estimates across 386 metro areas. It is not a Las Vegas spending total.

The City of Las Vegas reported a record $185.6 million in Nevada sportsbook handle. Handle is the amount wagered, not the amount visitors spent or the net economic gain from the event. The city also reported 300 events during Super Bowl week, including NFL-sponsored events and watch parties.
What the early results said
In its March 2024 recap, the city said preliminary findings indicated that the impact exceeded expectations, while final impact projections and future gaming and tourism measures were still pending. It also reported an average audience of 123.4 million viewers, 5 billion media impressions and 14,000 news stories. Those figures describe reach and coverage, not direct local economic gain.

Did the Super Bowl help Las Vegas more than a usual weekend?
It is reasonable to call the Super Bowl an unusually large event for Las Vegas: it was Nevada’s first, the city expected a substantial regional visitor influx, and published forecasts were unusually high. But the available sources do not provide a consistent comparison with a normal Las Vegas weekend or calculate how much activity was displaced from other tourism and spending.
As a result, the strongest supported conclusion is that the game generated major projected and reported economic activity. The evidence does not establish that $1 billion was a verified net gain, nor how much of the spending would not otherwise have occurred in Las Vegas.
