By September 29, Framework reported a mixed picture: lower prices on some LPCAMM2 pre-orders and higher prices on selected in-stock DDR5 laptop configurations. Whether to buy now depends on the exact laptop, memory type, and order status—not on a blanket prediction that RAM prices will keep rising.
What changed in Framework’s March 2026 RAM pricing?
On March 9, Framework raised prices for DDR5 SO-DIMM memory to $13–$18 per GB, depending on capacity. The company said the increase reflected higher supplier costs and the depletion of lower-cost inventory. Framework also said it uses a weighted-average cost model for inventory, so its listed price can reflect the cost of stock acquired at different times. Framework’s pricing update
Tom’s Hardware described the March change as the third increase in three months. Its March 11 report put Framework’s earlier ranges at $10–$13 per GB in December 2025 and $12–$16 per GB in February 2026. Those are dated Framework price-history figures, not current October 2026 retail prices. Tom’s Hardware’s March 11 report
Is Framework still warning of more increases?
The warning belongs to the March pricing period; it should not be read as a current forecast that every Framework memory option will rise. The company’s later updates show how prices can diverge by memory type, shipment, and stock status.

LPCAMM2 costs rose sharply in July
In a July 22 update, Framework said its supplier’s new LPCAMM2 quote was “more than double” the cost of the prior inventory it had purchased. That is Framework’s comparison of supplier costs for its inventory, not evidence that every LPCAMM2 retail configuration increased by that percentage. The company also described allocation changes affecting some later pre-order batches. Framework’s pricing update
September brought both decreases and increases
Framework’s September 29 update said it had obtained additional LPCAMM2 shipments at the previous shipment’s price. That allowed it to lower prices for 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 on eligible new pre-orders, extending reductions reported earlier in September to remaining eligible pre-orders and new orders. Separately, it raised prices for selected in-stock pre-built Laptop 13 and Laptop 16 DDR5 configurations as lower-cost inventory ran out. Framework’s September 29 update

- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
Framework founder and CEO Nirav Patel wrote in that update: “We’ll continue to keep you up to date throughout, and we’re going to keep working to find lower cost memory and storage for you wherever we can.” That is the company’s stated approach, not a guarantee of future price reductions.
Why the memory type matters
DDR5 SO-DIMM and LPCAMM2 are distinct memory formats. The March increase concerned DDR5 SO-DIMMs; the September Laptop 13 Pro update concerned LPCAMM2. A standard SO-DIMM recommendation cannot be applied to an LPCAMM2 model. Before buying memory separately, check the exact laptop model’s supported form factor and capacity in Framework’s compatibility guidance.

Framework says buyers can order DIY Edition laptops without memory and supply their own modules. That option may be worth comparing with the configured laptop price, but only after confirming that the module is compatible with the specific model. A cheaper module in the wrong format is not a saving.
Should you buy RAM now or wait?
There is no evidence here for a reliable market-wide prediction that RAM prices will rise or fall. Framework’s own changes show that price direction can differ between SO-DIMM and LPCAMM2, and even between inventory batches of the same broad category. Make the decision around the system and order you actually need:

- Actual memory speed may vary depending on the system, CPU, motherboard, BIOS settings, and supported memory configuration. DDR4 3200MHz modules may operate at lower speeds such as 2933MHz or 2666MHz when supported by the host system. Please check your device specifications and compatibility before purchase.

- For a new DIY laptop: Compare the current configured price with the cost of compatible memory bought separately. Include the exact form factor and supported capacity in the comparison.
- For a Laptop 13 Pro: Check the current LPCAMM2 price for the configuration and order status you intend to buy; do not substitute SO-DIMM pricing as a proxy.
- If you can wait: Waiting may expose you to a different inventory batch and price, but the September update does not establish that future prices will be lower.
- If you need the laptop now: Use the price displayed for the exact configuration at checkout rather than relying on March’s per-GB figures or a prediction based on them.
What happens to existing orders when prices change?
Framework’s adjustments depend on whether an order has shipped, is pending, or is a new purchase, and on the specific product and price change. In March, Framework said it would honor lower prices for existing pre-orders when prices rose, while configuration edits could bring updated memory or storage prices. In September, it described refunds or adjustments for specified shipped and pending orders that qualified for the LPCAMM2 reductions. These policies are not a blanket promise for every order, model, country, or later price change.
Check the latest official update and your own order summary before changing a configuration or assuming an adjustment applies. Framework attributes wider memory-market pressure to a supply-demand imbalance, including AI data-center demand and slow capacity expansion; its updates do not independently quantify how much AI demand contributes to consumer RAM prices.
