It offered 12 months of Microsoft 365 Personal for $46 at Newegg, bundled with one year of NordVPN Basic. That was about 54% below Microsoft’s then-listed $99.99 annual price for Personal—not a permanent Microsoft price cut. No evidence confirms that the original promotion remains available as of August 18, 2026.
If you find a similar listing, verify the retailer’s live product page, seller, region, term, coupon requirements, and renewal conditions before paying.

The discount calculation was straightforward: ($99.99 - $46) / $99.99 × 100 ≈ 54%. But that percentage compared the Microsoft 365 portion with Microsoft’s standard annual price. It was not necessarily a 54% discount on an equivalent Microsoft-and-NordVPN package.
The promotion was a retailer bundle: a Microsoft 365 Personal code, a NordVPN Basic subscription, and Newegg’s promotional pricing. The VPN adds value only if you actually want to use it.

See the original PCWorld deal report for the dated offer details. The next U.S. Black Friday is November 27, 2026, but a 2026 Microsoft 365 promotion should not be treated as confirmed until a retailer publishes its terms.
What Microsoft 365 Personal includes
Microsoft currently lists Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month in the U.S. It is intended for one person and includes:
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote
- 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage
- Microsoft Copilot features
- Microsoft Defender and related security features
- Access across PCs, Macs, phones, and tablets
- Installation on multiple devices, with use on up to five devices simultaneously
Feature availability can vary by device, operating system, language, region, and subscription tier. Copilot and other AI tools also have usage limits; “included” does not mean unlimited access.
Microsoft 365 is a subscription rather than a permanent license. Internet access is required for installation, activation, account management, and regular updates. Microsoft says an installed subscription app that does not connect for at least 31 days can enter reduced-functionality mode until it is reactivated.

Could existing subscribers use the code?
PCWorld reported that the code could extend an existing Microsoft 365 subscription by one year. That does not mean every Microsoft account or plan was automatically eligible.
Before redeeming, check that:
- You are signed in to the correct Microsoft account.
- Your current subscription is compatible with Microsoft 365 Personal.
- The code is valid for your region—original coverage specified North American accounts.
- You are not trying to convert a Family, Premium, business, school, or enterprise plan without confirming Microsoft’s rules.
- The code’s stacking and expiration terms permit the redemption.
A compatible code may add time to an existing Personal subscription rather than immediately replacing it. Microsoft and the retailer control the actual eligibility rules, so do not assume that a Personal code upgrades or converts another edition.
What happens after the 12 months?
The $46 promotion covered the prepaid retailer term. It did not establish a $46 renewal price.

After redemption, open your Microsoft account’s subscription settings and check the plan, expiration date, recurring-billing status, and renewal price. A third-party prepaid code and a subscription bought directly from Microsoft can have different billing arrangements. If you do not want another charge, turn off recurring billing according to the controls shown in your account. Confirm that doing so preserves the prepaid term before completing the change.
Do not provide payment details or enable recurring billing merely because the retailer advertised a low first-year price. The future renewal amount may be Microsoft’s then-current price, not the promotional price.
Personal versus Family

Family can be cheaper than buying two or more Personal subscriptions. Microsoft says it can be shared with up to five additional people. However, AI benefits may remain restricted to the subscription owner, so sharing the plan does not necessarily give every household member identical Copilot access.
The $46 deal was for Personal. It did not include Family sharing or Family storage.

How to redeem a similar live offer
- Confirm that the listing says Microsoft 365 Personal, not Office Home 2024, Family, Premium, or a business plan.
- Check the term, region, seller, taxes, coupon requirements, and whether the VPN is bundled automatically.
- Buy only from a retailer’s verified product page, and be cautious with marketplace sellers offering unusually cheap keys.
- Retrieve the Microsoft product key or redemption instructions from the retailer account or order email.
- Go to Microsoft’s official redemption page.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that should receive the subscription and enter the code.
- Verify the resulting expiration date.
- Review Microsoft account subscription settings for the plan, renewal date, price, and recurring-billing status.
- Install or update the apps through Microsoft’s official account or installation workflow.
The VPN may have separate redemption instructions. Keep both sets of instructions and check whether the NordVPN subscription has its own renewal terms.
Who should consider the deal?
- One-person users: You regularly use desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook.
- OneDrive users: You need 1 TB of cloud storage.
- Existing Personal subscribers: Microsoft accepts the code and adds the term to your account.
- VPN users: You genuinely want the bundled NordVPN Basic subscription.
Who should skip it?
- You only need occasional browser-based document editing.
- You already have sufficient cloud storage and do not need desktop Office apps.
- You need to share the subscription with a household.
- You dislike recurring subscriptions and prefer a permanent license.
- You already have a VPN or place no value on the bundled NordVPN service.
- The listing has unclear sellers, region restrictions, redemption instructions, or renewal terms.
Alternatives to Microsoft 365 Personal
Microsoft 365 Family: At Microsoft’s listed $129.99 annual price, it may be better value for two to six users, provided the household needs the included storage and apps.
Office Home 2024: Microsoft lists this as a $179.99 one-time purchase for one PC or Mac. It may suit someone who wants a permanent license and does not need OneDrive storage, multi-device access, or continuing subscription features.
Free web apps: Microsoft’s web versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint can cover basic browser-based work.

Other office suites: Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are browser-based alternatives, while LibreOffice provides an offline, no-subscription option.
Existing access: Check whether an employer or school already provides Microsoft 365. Eligible employees may also find savings through Microsoft’s Home Use Program, subject to the program’s rules.
Common problems to avoid
- Wrong account: The code may attach to the account currently signed in.
- Wrong edition: Personal codes do not automatically work with Family, Premium, business, or education subscriptions.
- Expired listing: Search results can continue showing pages after inventory or coupon pricing ends.
- Region mismatch: An imported code may fail if it was limited to North American accounts.
- Bundle confusion: Microsoft 365 and NordVPN may require separate redemption steps.
- Renewal shock: The first-year price does not determine the next billing price.
- Feature mismatch: Windows, Mac, mobile, and web versions may not offer identical features.
For any similar promotion, confirm the live retailer page rather than relying on an old deal URL. Prices, coupons, inventory, sellers, redemption regions, and renewal terms can change.
