Short answer: TCL TVs are sold through TCL Electronics Holdings Limited, whose controlling shareholder is TCL Industries Holdings Co., Ltd. TCL is a Chinese-founded global electronics group, but its televisions are not all made in China. TCL identifies TV production bases in China, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, and Pakistan.
The country of final assembly depends on the model, destination market, production date, and supply-chain allocation. To identify the origin of a particular television, check its carton and rear product label rather than relying on the TCL brand name.
Who owns TCL TVs?
The TCL-branded TV business sits within TCL Electronics Holdings Limited. TCL Electronics is incorporated in the Cayman Islands and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under stock code 01070.HK. Its controlling shareholder is TCL Industries Holdings Co., Ltd., according to TCL Electronics’ investor-relations FAQ.
That makes the most precise description: TCL TVs are produced and marketed by a Hong Kong-listed consumer-electronics company controlled by TCL Industries, part of a Chinese-founded global corporate group.

TCL Electronics, TCL Industries, TCL Technology, and TCL CSOT are not the same company
Several similarly named TCL businesses are often incorrectly treated as one corporation. They are related, but they have different roles.
- TCL Electronics: The Hong Kong-listed consumer-electronics company responsible for TCL-branded televisions and other consumer products.
- TCL Industries: The controlling shareholder of TCL Electronics and the group associated with consumer-facing businesses such as TVs, smart devices, and appliances.
- TCL Technology: A separate listed TCL group company focused on display technology, semiconductor displays, materials, and related industrial operations.
- TCL CSOT: A display-panel and module subsidiary associated with TCL Technology.
The distinction dates to TCL’s 2019 corporate restructuring, which separated the consumer businesses associated with TCL Industries from the technology and industrial businesses associated with TCL Technology.
Is TCL a Chinese company?
Yes, in practical business terms. TCL originated in China, maintains major Chinese operations, and is controlled by a Chinese corporate group. At the same time, its corporate structure is multinational: TCL Electronics is incorporated in the Cayman Islands, listed in Hong Kong, and operates manufacturing and sales networks across multiple regions.
Calling TCL simply a “Hong Kong company” leaves out its Chinese origins and controlling group. Saying that every TCL TV is Chinese-made is also inaccurate. Corporate nationality, stock-exchange listing, and the country where a particular TV is assembled are separate questions.

| Country | What the location means |
|---|---|
| China | One of TCL’s major production and technology centers. |
| Vietnam | A significant Asian manufacturing location and an important source of production for some markets. |
| Mexico | Supports production for the Americas, including an increasing share of U.S.-market capacity. |
| Brazil | Supports regional production and supply in Latin America. |
| Poland | Part of TCL’s European production network. |
| Pakistan | Supports regional manufacturing and supply. |
TCL says this network has annual TV production capacity of more than 30 million sets. The company’s 2025 annual report describes production across China, Vietnam, the Americas, the Mediterranean, and Europe.
Are TCL TVs made in China?
Some are, but not all. China remains one of TCL’s major TV-production locations, but the company also manufactures televisions through facilities in Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, and Pakistan.
The exact origin can change even within the same broad product family. TCL may allocate production differently according to regional demand, logistics, tariffs, component availability, and production capacity. An older review or retailer listing therefore may not establish where a television made later was assembled.
Are TCL TVs made in Mexico for the U.S. market?
Some U.S.-market production has shifted toward Mexico. TCL’s 2025 reporting says capacity serving the United States moved from Vietnam toward Mexico, partly in response to tariff and supply-chain conditions.
That does not prove that every current TCL television sold in the United States is made in Mexico. A U.S. buyer may receive a TV assembled in Mexico, Vietnam, China, or another facility used for that model and production run. The carton’s country-of-origin statement is the best way to verify the individual unit.

TCL’s published disclosures identify production bases in Mexico and other countries, but they do not list a U.S. television-assembly plant. That is more precise than claiming that no TCL TV has ever undergone any U.S. production activity.
Does TCL manufacture its own TV panels?
TCL has substantial display manufacturing through TCL CSOT. Its company profile identifies panel production lines and module bases in China and India, while TCL Technology describes CSOT’s display-panel and module operations on its business page.

However, panel manufacturing and finished-TV assembly are different steps:
- Panel manufacturing produces the LCD, Mini-LED, or other display panel or module.
- TV assembly combines the display with the chassis, mainboard, power supply, speakers, software, ports, and other components.
A TCL-made panel may be used in a television assembled elsewhere. Conversely, the presence of TCL CSOT within the wider corporate group does not establish that every TCL TV uses a TCL-made panel. Consumer TVs also contain components sourced from outside suppliers.
“Vertically integrated in display manufacturing” is therefore more accurate than “entirely made in-house.”

Are all TCL TVs made in the same factory?
No. TCL operates a distributed global production network, and the same general product family can have different regional versions. Model numbers and suffixes may correspond to differences in software, tuners, power supplies, inputs, panels, warranty coverage, or other hardware.

How to check where a specific TCL TV was made
For a purchase decision, verify the exact unit using this checklist:
- Inspect the shipping carton. Look for “Made in…” or “Assembled in…” wording.
- Check the rear regulatory label. The television may list its assembly country alongside the model and serial number.
- Record the complete model number. Regional suffixes matter; compare the full number rather than only the product-family name.
- Check the serial-number label and documentation. Manuals, warranty materials, and product labels can identify the relevant regional version.
- Compare the retailer’s specification page. Treat it as supporting evidence, because listings can contain errors or describe a different regional model.
- Contact TCL support for the exact model. TCL’s U.S. support site provides model documentation and warranty information. Other countries may have different support portals and terms.
“Designed by TCL,” “panel manufactured by TCL CSOT,” “components sourced from suppliers,” and “assembled in Mexico” can all describe different stages of the same product’s supply chain. “Assembled in” does not mean that every part was made in that country.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the manufacturing country determine TCL TV quality?
Not reliably. Assembly location alone is not a useful quality rating. Picture performance and reliability depend more directly on the specific model’s components, design, firmware, calibration, factory quality controls, supplier consistency, shipping, and handling.
A TV assembled in China is not automatically inferior to one assembled in Mexico or Poland, and the reverse is also true. Buyers should compare the exact model’s:

- software platform and update support;
- warranty and retailer return policy.
Likewise, a TCL-made panel does not automatically mean a better television. The backlight, processing, tuning, and implementation determine how the finished TV performs.
Does manufacturing location affect warranty coverage?
Usually, warranty eligibility is tied primarily to the market, model, seller, purchase documentation, and applicable warranty terms—not simply to the country printed on the carton. But coverage varies by country and product category.
Before buying, check the warranty for the exact regional model through TCL’s local support site. In the United States, consult TCL’s TV warranty information, and keep the receipt and model and serial numbers. A television imported from another market may have different service arrangements or may not qualify for the same local warranty.
Why TCL’s manufacturing footprint has changed
TCL’s international expansion included entry into Vietnam in 1999 and the acquisition of Thomson’s television business in 2004. TCL CSOT was established in 2009, and the 2019 restructuring separated the consumer and technology sides of the broader group. TCL subsequently expanded production across Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
This history helps explain why TCL does not have one permanent “made in” answer. Manufacturing is allocated internationally and can move as the company responds to demand, tariffs, logistics, and regional supply requirements. TCL Electronics reported 29 million TV shipments in 2024 in its company overview, adding scale to that global production network.
What this means for a buyer
If you are deciding whether to purchase a TCL TV, the country of assembly is worth verifying only when it matters for a specific reason, such as local warranty eligibility, import restrictions, or a personal sourcing preference. It should not substitute for comparing the TV’s actual specifications and support terms.
Quick Recap
The financially important checks are:
- the full model number and regional version;
- the return window and restocking rules;
- the local warranty and service provider;
- the operating system and required apps;
- the panel, refresh rate, ports, and backlight features;
- the retailer’s handling of defects or shipping damage.
