But that answers only one version of “Which esports game makes the most money?” Dota 2 led the same tracker’s all-time prize-money ranking, while League of Legends led its 2025 peak-viewership list. None of those measures establishes which game has the most revenue, profit or overall business value.
Which esports game has the biggest prize pool in 2025?
For total tournament prize money awarded during 2025, Counter-Strike ranked first in Esports Charts’ annual list, with $32,279,855. Esports Charts’ article, published Dec. 17, 2025, says its dataset covers more than 10,500 tournaments across over 100 titles, including tournaments that ended in 2025 even if they began earlier. It reports more than $270 million awarded across esports tournaments that year, up 15.5% from 2024. See Esports Charts’ 2025 prize-money report.

How the 2025 ranking changed
Esports Charts says Counter-Strike’s prize money rose 41.5% year over year as its top-tier calendar expanded. Dota 2, which topped the prior year’s table, placed second; Honor of Kings remained in the top three. Fortnite came fourth and PUBG Mobile fifth. League of Legends reached nearly $15 million, which Esports Charts attributes in part to higher MSI and World Championship prize pools and the addition of First Stand. These are the tracker’s explanations for changes in prize totals, not measures of broader commercial performance.

Trackers can produce different lifetime totals. Esports Earnings also ranks Dota 2 first, but reports materially different totals and ordering below it. It says its rankings draw on publicly available information such as news, interviews, official statements, databases and archived event material. How mobile esports fit into the comparison
Mobile games are prominent in the 2025 prize-money comparison: Honor of Kings ranked third overall, and PUBG Mobile fifth. What does “most valuable esports game” mean?
There is no comparable title-by-title ranking in the cited sources for esports revenue, profit or enterprise value. A useful comparison depends on what kind of money or audience you mean:
- Tournament prize money: the amount awarded to competitors in a defined period. Counter-Strike led the published 2025 ranking.
- Audience reach: a specified measure such as peak viewers. League of Legends led Esports Charts’ 2025 peak-viewership ranking.
- Game revenue: sales and in-game spending attributable to a title. Prize money does not reveal this.
- Esports business revenue: money from sponsorships, media, ticketing, merchandise and digital items. It may flow to publishers, teams, leagues or event organizers in different ways.
- Profit or valuation: earnings or enterprise value for a company or team. Neither is interchangeable with a game’s tournament payouts or audience.

Prize pools are only one way money moves through esports
Riot Games describes digital-content sales and revenue sharing with teams alongside support such as stipends, incentives and prize pools. In a specific historical example, Riot said the 2022 VALORANT Champions skin pack generated $42 million in sales, with half distributed to participating teams. That example shows how digital items can support teams; it is not a title-wide revenue estimate or a figure that can be generalized to other games. Riot Games’ VALORANT esports announcements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the biggest prize pool mean the best-paying esports career?
Not by itself. The annual totals show how much was awarded across tournaments, not what a typical player earned or the odds of qualifying for a payout. They do not include a comparable breakdown of player salaries, contracts or sponsorship income. A player’s potential earnings depend on opportunities and compensation beyond tournament prize money, which these rankings do not establish.
