No verified Disney offer or signed deal was established in the reporting reviewed. The widely shared story described an alleged $301 million deal, but Johnny Depp’s representative told Entertainment Tonight on June 28, 2022, that Depp was not in talks and called the report “false.” Depp’s separate courtroom remark about “$300 million and a million alpacas” answered a hypothetical question; it was not confirmation that Disney made an offer.
What was the alleged Disney deal?
Australian outlet Poptopic was identified by Entertainment Tonight as the source of a report claiming Depp was in talks with Disney on a $301 million deal to appear in a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film. That was an allegation about a possible deal, not evidence of a signed contract or a confirmed offer. Entertainment Tonight’s June 28, 2022 report attributed the story to Poptopic.

What did Depp’s representative say?
In the same June 28, 2022 report, Entertainment Tonight quoted Depp’s representative saying he was not in talks to reprise Captain Jack Sparrow and describing the report as “false.” This is the clearest direct response to the rumor in the reporting cited here. It does not establish what may have happened after that date.
What did Depp mean by “$300 million and a million alpacas”?
During testimony on April 20, 2022, attorney Benjamin Rottenborn asked Depp to agree with a hypothetical: “if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, correct?” Depp replied, “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.” The exchange recorded Depp’s stated willingness to return under that hypothetical; it did not show that Disney had offered him the money. Did Depp say Pirates 6 would be made?
No. Asked about a sixth film, Depp said, “I believe it’s in dangle mode,” and testified that he did not know whether or when it would be made. That testimony describes his understanding at the time, not a later production update. The transcript contains the exchange.

The future is yet to be decided.” The outlet also reported that Bruckheimer described two scripts in development, one with Margot Robbie and one without. Those were contemporaneous remarks about an undecided future; they did not announce Depp’s return and should not be read as current production status. Entertainment Tonight’s report provides that context.
