The clearest first-person account comes from Bobby Berk: he said he lost money on Queer Eye’s first two seasons after accounting for the time filming took him away from his design business, and he probably broke even in seasons three and four. A separate figure often cited for the early seasons—$7,500 per episode for each original cast member—is attributed to Variety’s 2018 reporting by Cosmopolitan. It is a reported group rate, not a salary figure Berk disclosed in his later comments.
What did Bobby Berk say he earned?
In remarks reported by Parade from his appearance on Vivian Tu’s Networth and Chill podcast, Berk described the first two seasons this way: “First two seasons I definitely lost money on the show because they were paying us basically nothing.” He added, “Season 3 and 4, I probably broke even.”
Those are qualitative statements about Berk’s own finances, not a disclosed dollar salary or a full accounting of his castmates’ earnings. His “probably” matters: he did not present breaking even in seasons three and four as a precise calculation.
Where does the $7,500-per-episode figure come from?
Cosmopolitan reported in June 2025 that Variety had reported in 2018 that each original cast member was paid $7,500 per episode for the first two seasons. That figure is therefore a secondary attribution here: it is Cosmopolitan’s account of Variety’s earlier reporting, not a number Berk supplied in his 2025 comments.

Why did Berk say he lost money?
Berk said filming kept him from running his interior-design company while he was away. Parade’s account says the cast spent five months away filming and also took part in press tours. His point was about the financial cost of time away from his existing work as well as the show’s pay—not simply whether a per-episode amount exceeded zero.

He also characterized compensation in relation to scripted television, saying, “To be frank they never really paid us well, compared to what they pay scripted stars. We made a single digit percentage.” He did not identify the comparison base or provide an exact rate, so the comment supports a qualitative comparison only.
What is known about residuals and later opportunities?
Parade reported that Berk replied “$0 residuals” to a fan asking about his own residuals. That is his answer about his experience; it does not establish what the other cast members received.
