Re:

What Is the Highest-Value Visa Gift Card in 2026?

Visa lets each issuer set its own gift card maximum. The highest documented example is $1,000, from Signature Bank and Traditional Bank, but fees and restrictions also matter.

The highest Visa gift card value documented in current U.S. issuer product pages is $1,000. Visa does not set a single maximum for its gift cards, though, so no one can name the highest-value card across the whole market. Each issuer sets its own cap, and the limit that applies to your purchase is the one in that issuer’s current terms.

Why there is no single maximum

Visa’s consumer guidance says that issuers determine the maximum amount a Visa Gift card can hold (Visa consumer guidance, “Check Visa Gift Card Balance”). A Visa logo therefore tells you the network that processes the card, not how much it can carry. Two cards with the same logo can have very different caps, and a card from a different issuer may allow more than either.

The documented $1,000 examples

The issuer product pages accessed in 2026 show the following loads. Treat these as the terms on those dates, since issuers revise their products.

Issuer and product Published load or value Scope note
Signature Bank Visa Gift Card $10 to $1,000 Consumer gift card; non-reloadable; fees and use limits below
Traditional Bank Visa Gift Card Maximum value of $1,000 Minimum load not stated on the page reviewed; check current card terms
U.S. Bank consumer Visa Gift Card $25 to $500 Available only to U.S. Bank checking and savings customers
U.S. Bank business Visa Rewards Card $10 to $1,000 Separate business product, not the consumer gift card

What the $1,000 figure does and does not establish

Signature Bank and Traditional Bank both publish $1,000 as their top amount, so $1,000 is a confirmed high-value option among U.S. issuers. It is not proof of the highest available limit. The examples cover two issuers, not the market, and they say nothing about whether a card is offered in your area or to your account type.

Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
  • To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.

The U.S. Bank business Visa Rewards Card also tops out at $1,000, but it is a business prepaid product. Its load range should not be used to answer what a consumer gift card can hold.

Fees and use restrictions matter as much as the cap

A larger card that costs more to buy or keep can be a worse gift than a smaller one. Signature Bank’s current terms illustrate what to look for:

  • Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
  • Purchase fee: $3.
  • Inactivity fee: $4.95 per month, starting only after 12 consecutive months without activity.
  • Use: domestic use only, with no reloading and no ATM or cash access.

Other issuers set their own fee schedules and restrictions, so compare these points for each card you consider: purchase fee, inactivity fee and the month it begins, domestic or international acceptance, reloadability, cash access, and whether online use is allowed.

Federal protections on the underlying funds

Regulation E, issued by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (12 CFR 1005.20), sets conditions on gift card inactivity fees and generally requires the underlying funds to remain valid for at least five years. The rule has a defined scope and exceptions, so the card agreement still controls the details of your specific card.

Before you buy a high-value Visa gift card

  1. Confirm you are looking at a consumer Visa gift card, not a business prepaid card, and note the exact product name.
  2. Check the maximum load on the issuer’s current product page and in the card agreement.
  3. Read the purchase fee and inactivity fee schedule, including when the inactivity fee begins.
  4. Confirm where the card can be used. Domestic-only cards will not work abroad.
  5. Confirm whether the recipient can use the card online, since Visa’s balance guidance describes online checkout using card details.
  6. If you need a specific amount, ask the issuer whether it can be loaded before you pay.

Visa’s balance guidance also says that a Visa gift card can be used for purchases up to its balance and cannot be reloaded. Issuer-specific acceptance rules still apply, so a full balance does not guarantee every merchant will accept the card.
