“Holding period” in Roblox is not one rule. It refers to several separate waiting periods, and the length depends on what is being held: an item you bought, Robux from a sale, a creator commission, or a Creator Award. A purchased Limited or Limited U can be held for up to 30 days before you can resell it. Pending Robux from Experience Pass sales are held in escrow for a period Roblox does not state as a single fixed number. Creator Awards carry a 60-day holding period, and avatar-item creator commissions are held for 30 days from the sale date.
Identify which holding period applies to you
Start with the question of what is locked. If you bought a Limited item and want to resell it, you are dealing with an item resale restriction. If Robux is showing as pending in your account, the money came from a sale or award and is in escrow. The two work differently, and the wait for one does not predict the wait for the other.
Limited and Limited U resale: up to 30 days
Roblox Support states that a purchased Limited or Limited U enters a holding period of up to 30 days and cannot be resold until that period ends. “Up to” is the key phrase. The 30 days is a ceiling, not a guaranteed timer, so do not assume every item becomes tradeable on day 30 exactly. Check the item’s status before you list it. The Support article on how to sell items sets out the resale conditions.
Resale also has an account requirement. According to the same Support article, reselling requires an active Roblox Plus subscription and an eligible Limited or Limited U that has cleared its holding period. Subscription names and eligibility can change, and the item details page still refers to legacy Premium, so confirm the current requirement for your region on Roblox’s site before relying on it. Experience Pass sale proceeds: escrow with no stated universal duration
When someone buys your Experience Pass, the Robux you earn appears as pending. Roblox’s Experience Passes article describes this state directly: “This pending status is called escrow.” The funds move into your Robux total once the holding period ends.
The article does not give a universal length for this hold. That means you should not estimate a release date by borrowing the 30-day Limited rule. If you need the exact timing for a specific payout, use My Transactions and the current Roblox Support page for your situation.

Avatar-item creator commissions: 30 days from the sale
Roblox Creator Hub states that it holds commissions from avatar-item sales for 30 days from the sale date. This is a creator earnings hold. It is not the same rule as waiting to resell a Limited item you bought, even though both are 30 days. The marketplace fees and commissions page covers how the commission and Robux share are handled during escrow.
Creator Awards: 60 days in Earned Robux
According to Roblox Creator Hub, Creator Awards, where they are granted, are paid in Earned Robux and carry a 60-day holding period. Eligibility for an award is not guaranteed, and the Creator Rewards page points creators to DevEx terms for eligibility and for any conversion to cash.

Trades and later resales: historical figures only
A July 14, 2023 Roblox Developer Forum announcement, Updates to Item Holding Periods [Marketplace], described holds that started July 20, 2023: up to 30 days after an original UGC Limited sale, up to 7 days on subsequent resales, and up to 2 days when an item is traded. Roblox said the change was meant to limit economic disruption if an account were compromised.
The Support pages covered here do not confirm the trade and later-resale figures as current. Treat them as historical context from a 2023 announcement, and check Roblox’s current documentation before planning around them. The 30-day original-sale figure is the one repeated in current Support guidance for Limited resale.

What to do when Robux is pending
- Open My Transactions from your Roblox account to see your sales and the amount listed as Pending Robux.
- Match the pending amount to the sale or Experience Pass purchase. Note the transaction date.
- For Limited items, open the item’s details page and check its owned-item status. Do not attempt a resale until the status shows the hold has cleared.
- If the displayed status or date appears wrong, contact Roblox Support about that specific transaction and include the transaction date and item name.
The Roblox Support material covered here does not describe a user setting or action that shortens or skips a holding period. Waiting is the only documented path.
Limits of what is documented
- The Limited resale period is documented as a maximum of 30 days, not a fixed duration.
- The Experience Pass escrow length is not stated as a universal figure in the cited Support article.
- The 30-day avatar commission hold and the 60-day Creator Award hold are stated by Roblox Creator Hub, which governs creator earnings. These figures may change, so check the linked pages for current values.
- The 2023 trade and later-resale windows are dated announcement details and should not be treated as current policy.
Holding periods are policy settings, not guarantees of how long an individual transaction will take. When a timeline matters to a purchase or payout, confirm it against the official page for that transaction type before making a decision.
