Walmart Direct-to-Fridge Delivery as an Optional Walmart+ Perk: Cost, Coverage and Limits

Walmart folded its InHome delivery into Walmart+ in 2022 as an optional add-on. Here is how doorstep, garage and refrigerator delivery works, what the current offer shows, and what limits apply.

Walmart’s direct-to-fridge delivery is no longer sold as a separate service. Since Walmart announced on July 6, 2022 that its InHome service would be offered as an optional add-on within Walmart+, delivery into the home, garage or refrigerator has been a membership-level choice. On Walmart’s InHome page as reviewed on October 8, 2026, that option is listed as Walmart+ InHome at $19.95 per month or $138 per year after a 30-day trial, with a $35 order minimum. Whether it is available at your address depends on Walmart’s own checkout and delivery flow.

What changed in 2022

InHome started as a standalone delivery service. In its July 6, 2022 announcement, Walmart said it was now offered as an optional add-on within Walmart+, so that new and existing members could pick the level of delivery they wanted rather than buying a separate service. Walmart’s corporate materials date the program’s launch to 2019. A June 6, 2024 company article reported more than 4,000 dedicated InHome Associate Delivery driver jobs created since that launch.

The change was therefore a restructuring of how the service is bought, not a new appliance, lock or device. Customers do not need to install anything to use it, although the service is designed around the customer’s own refrigerator, garage or home entry.

Where deliveries can be placed

Walmart’s current InHome page describes three destinations, plus the standard doorstep option. Which ones you can select depends on your address and the order.

Doorstep Delivery to the front door Available for the address and order
Garage Delivery inside the garage Available for the address and order
Inside the home, including the refrigerator Delivery by trained Walmart associates into the home or directly into the fridge Available for the address and order; not stated as available for every home

Walmart says these deliveries are handled by trained Walmart associates. Because the destination is set per address, a customer who wants refrigerator delivery should check that option before assuming it will be offered.

What it costs now and what changed

The price that matters for a new decision is the one shown during enrollment. Walmart’s terms say membership fees are set at enrollment and can vary, so the figures below are the ones displayed on the reviewed pages, dated as shown.

Item July 6, 2022 announcement (launch-era rates) Walmart InHome page, reviewed October 8, 2026
Base Walmart+ membership $12.95 per month or $98 per year Not stated on the reviewed InHome page
InHome add-on $7 per month or $40 per year Walmart+ InHome: $19.95 per month or $138 per year, after a 30-day trial
Combined annual figure $138 per year for both (as stated in 2022) Not stated as a combined figure on the reviewed page
Order minimum Not stated in the 2022 announcement $35 minimum applies; restrictions apply

The two annual totals of $138 share a number but describe different offers in different years, so they should not be read as a continuing price. Use the monthly and annual options exactly as the checkout displays them; do not work out one from the other, because the page does not present a conversion between them.

Walmart’s offer page describes tip-included delivery with no added delivery fees. That is Walmart’s own description of the offer. The membership fee and the $35 order minimum still apply and should be counted alongside it.

Is it available at your address?

Walmart’s terms limit Walmart+ to customers with a U.S. billing address, with certain territories at Walmart’s discretion. Benefits require an active account and may carry additional eligibility requirements. Availability is decided at the address level, so a market-wide statement is not a guarantee for your home.

To check your own address:

  1. Open Walmart’s InHome page and start the Walmart+ InHome enrollment, or open an existing Walmart+ account.
  2. Enter the delivery address in the address step of checkout, not a different address saved for another purpose.
  3. Look at the delivery options offered for that address and order. Confirm whether doorstep, garage and inside-home or refrigerator options appear.
  4. Read the fee and trial terms shown at enrollment and keep a record of the price shown.

Walmart’s 2022 announcement named Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Dallas, Austin, San Jose and San Francisco as expansion markets. That list is historical and is not a current coverage map. Walmart’s June 6, 2024 company article reported the service reaching more than 45 million households across more than 50 markets. That is a dated company reach figure, not a live count of addresses where the service can be booked.

Limits you should know before signing up

  • Pharmacy: pharmacy delivery is not available through InHome.
  • Alcohol: availability depends on location and on state and local law.
  • Returns pickup: the offer page advertises pickup of eligible Walmart.com returns, but only for eligible items at select locations, and the customer must be present.
  • Trial: the 30-day trial is shown on the current page; confirm its terms during enrollment.

The replenishment idea behind it

In a January 9, 2024 Walmart article about InHome Replenishment, Whitney Pegden, vice president of New Propositions and Pre-Transactions at Walmart U.S., said: “So, when customers go for milk, instead of having nothing, they have something.” That line describes Walmart’s concept. It is not a measured result, and it does not mean customers receive items they did not request.

The same article described an algorithm that uses regularly purchased items to propose a cart. Customers can skip or add items and adjust delivery timing. A household that wants full control over every order should expect to review the proposed cart, not simply accept it.

Deciding whether the perk fits your household

No break-even figure can be calculated from the available information, because delivery frequency, local fees and individual usage differ. Test the decision against your own numbers instead:

  • Frequency: how many grocery orders per month would use a delivery destination you actually want, such as the refrigerator or garage?
  • Order size: does a typical order clear the $35 minimum without padding the cart?
  • Address: does your address offer the destination you want at checkout?
  • Restricted items: do you rely on pharmacy items or alcohol, which the service does not cover in the same way?
  • Billing: does your billing address meet the U.S. requirement?

If most of those questions point to a yes, the membership is worth pricing against the delivery you would otherwise pay for or arrange yourself. If the destination you want is not offered at your address, the decision is largely settled before the price matters.

Walmart’s offer, not an external review, is the only source for the current figures in this article. Confirm all prices, trial terms and address eligibility on the enrollment page before you commit.
