How to apply in 2023
The application-opening report described the following sequence. Because the window has closed, treat these steps as a record of the 2023 process, not as a working link or current instruction.
- Go to the WBPSC website at https://wbpsc.gov.in.
- If you had registered on the site before, register afresh. The official notice said candidates who had enrolled earlier were required to do this.
- Select Apply Online and complete registration.
- Fill in the application form with your personal, educational and category details.
- Pay the applicable fee (see the fee table below).
- Submit the form.
- Download and keep a printout of the submitted application.
Eligibility for the 2023 cycle
- Age: 18 to 40 years as of January 1, 2023, with upper-age relaxation for reserved categories, as reported by Scroll.
- Education: Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or an equivalent qualification.
- Computer knowledge: elementary knowledge of computer operation.
- Typing: 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali, on a computer.
The official indicative advertisement stated that detailed qualification information would be published later, so the detailed notice governs any exact requirement.
Fee and category exemptions
Scroll’s December 8, 2023 report gave the fee as Rs 110 for General and OBC candidates, exclusive of taxes that depend on the payment method. Exemptions were reported as follows.

How candidates were selected
The application-opening report described two written stages and a qualifying test. The number of vacancies was to be announced later.
Part I: objective type
The first stage was an objective-type paper.
Part II: conventional written
The second stage was a conventional written examination.
Qualifying test of computer skills
Final merit was calculated from the combined marks of Parts I and II, but only for candidates who qualified in the test of elementary computer operation and computer typing. Because the typing test is a qualifying condition, anyone preparing for a similar recruitment should practise typing on a computer keyboard well before the examination. The notice did not name any particular book, course or typing tool.
Checking for current WBPSC Clerkship notices
- Use the Commission’s official website, https://wbpsc.gov.in, and open its notice listing.
- Look for the most recent Clerkship notice rather than a saved application link from 2023. Later Clerkship Examination 2023 notices appear on the listing, and older links may no longer lead to an active form.
- Read the detailed advertisement before relying on any age limit, qualification, fee or exemption. Those rules can change between recruitment cycles.
How reliable these 2023 details are
The examination identity, the online-only route, the fresh-registration instruction and the statement that detailed rules would follow come from the official indicative advertisement. The application dates, steps, age range, fee, category exemptions and selection stages come from Scroll’s December 8, 2023 report, because the Commission’s detailed PDF was not available for direct checking when this article was prepared.
