The FAA says it completed its review of United Airlines on October 2, 2026, found no significant safety issues, and concluded the enhanced oversight and approval process for United to add aircraft and services. The update does not name new routes, destinations, aircraft, or service start dates, and it does not announce certification of a new aircraft model.
What the FAA announced
In its October 2, 2026 update, the FAA said its Certificate Holder Evaluation Program (CHEP) review of United was complete and that the review “did not identify any significant safety issues.” The agency also said the enhanced oversight and approval process for United to add aircraft and services had concluded.
This is a status update about United’s airline operations and the FAA’s review process. It is not a statement that safety risks are zero, that all FAA oversight of United has ended, or that a specific new service is already operating.
Does this mean United has FAA approval for new routes?
The October update does not list any new routes or destinations, or say when any additional service may begin. It therefore does not establish that a particular route has been approved, announced, scheduled, or opened for booking. Travelers should look for a separate United announcement or schedule listing before making plans.

The later statement is the current status in the FAA’s update. It does not provide a route list or aircraft count.
Did the FAA certify a new United aircraft?
No such certification is announced in the October update. Airline operational approvals and aircraft design certification are different matters. The FAA’s airworthiness certification overview describes a process that can cover design compliance, ground and flight testing, production, maintenance, and operational suitability. The United update concerns completion of the airline review and approval process for adding aircraft and services; it does not identify a newly certified aircraft type.
