Those reports put the possible total at up to 380 roles, but described some cuts as pending consultation—not as a finalized layoff count. They do not establish that the cuts happened exactly one week after a particular studio shutdown.
Which Ubisoft studios are closing?
Game Informer reported that Ubisoft had shut its Winnipeg, Canada, and Belgrade, Serbia, studios. The same-day coverage described additional proposed reductions in Barcelona, Spain, and Ubisoft’s global publishing business; San Francisco, United States, was also reported to be affected. Game Informer’s June 10 report and Game Developer’s coverage distinguish the two studio closures from the proposed reductions elsewhere.
| Location or group | Reported action | Reported impact and status |
|---|---|---|
| Winnipeg, Canada | Studio closed | 65 employees reportedly affected, per Game Informer; Insider Gaming corrected its initial estimate of 85 to 65. |
| Belgrade, Serbia | Studio closed | Roughly 100 employees reportedly affected, per Game Informer. |
| Barcelona, Spain | Proposed job reductions; studio expected to stay open and focus solely on Rainbow Six | 51 employees reportedly affected, per Game Informer; reductions were described as proposed or pending consultation. |
| Global publishing business | Proposed job reductions | Included in the possible company-wide figure of up to 380; a separate count was not stated in the cited reports. |
| San Francisco, United States | Further reductions reported | Described as affecting dozens; an exact count was not stated. |
These figures come from reports, not a published final company tally. Game Informer said the possible maximum of 380 came from an internal message obtained by Insider Gaming. Game Developer likewise described cuts as potentially affecting up to 380 roles and said reductions were pending consultation. The location estimates should not be added to, or treated as equivalent to, that possible maximum.
How many Ubisoft employees are affected?
The most specific location figures reported were 65 in Winnipeg, roughly 100 in Belgrade, and 51 in Barcelona. Game Informer described San Francisco’s impact as dozens without specifying a number. “Up to 380” is the reported possible upper limit across the broader reductions, not a confirmed total of people laid off.

There is also a distinction between job cuts and changes to project staffing. Insider Gaming reported that 120 people working on Rainbow Six Siege and around 50 people working on Rainbow Six Siege Mobile and an unannounced project were ramped off those projects. Its sources did not consider those moves additional layoffs at the time. Insider Gaming’s report also corrected the Winnipeg estimate from 85 to 65.
Is Ubisoft Barcelona closing?
No. Game Developer reported that Barcelona was expected to remain open and focus solely on Rainbow Six. The reported 51 affected employees refer to proposed reductions, not closure of the Barcelona studio.

Why is Ubisoft restructuring?
The cuts come against the backdrop of Ubisoft’s January 2026 reset, which reporting described as a reorganization around creative houses and changes to the company’s portfolio. Game Informer reported that Vantage Studios would manage Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, and noted cancellations including Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The June reports place the studio closures and proposed reductions within that wider restructuring, but do not establish a more specific rationale for each location’s cuts.
Insider Gaming attributed this explanation to an unnamed Ubisoft source, not a named executive: “Rainbow Six Siege remains a strong brand. As projects move through different stages of development and live operations, it is normal practice to adjust team size and resource allocation based on evolving priorities and operational needs.”

Did Ubisoft lay off developers a week after closing a studio?
The June 10, 2026 reports establish that Ubisoft closed two studios and announced further reductions elsewhere. They do not verify the exact “a week after” sequence in the headline premise or identify a particular earlier shutdown that would substantiate it. The timing should therefore be treated as unconfirmed, rather than as an established chronology.
