By GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP), Liechtenstein ranks first among the 20 economies in this 2025 comparison, at $192,420 international dollars per person. The figures are 2025 estimates from the IMF’s April 2026 World Economic Outlook (WEO), as presented by Worldometer, except where the table identifies a World Bank observation from an earlier year. This ranks average economic output per person—not personal wealth or the income most residents receive.
Top 20 economies by GDP per capita at PPP
PPP adjusts for differences in price levels between economies, and the results are expressed in international dollars. The ranking below follows the source table’s order. Its scope includes territories and special jurisdictions as well as countries.

Source: Worldometer’s GDP per capita ranking, attributed primarily to the IMF World Economic Outlook, April 2026. Bermuda and the Faeroe Islands use World Bank 2024 observations; Cayman Islands uses a World Bank 2023 observation. Values are international dollars per person, not market-exchange-rate currency amounts.
Why the richest-economy ranking depends on the measure
“Richest” has no single statistical definition. This list uses GDP per capita at PPP, a way to compare average output per person while accounting for differences in local prices. A nominal GDP-per-capita ranking instead uses current prices and market exchange rates, without a PPP adjustment.

That change in method reshuffles the leaders. In Worldometer’s nominal table, Monaco ranks first at $288,002 per person, a World Bank 2024 observation; Liechtenstein is second at $217,928, an IMF WEO 2025 estimate. In the PPP ranking above, Liechtenstein ranks first. The nominal table also combines years: Bermuda’s listed value is from the World Bank’s 2024 data, for example, while most entries are labeled IMF 2025 estimates. See the source’s nominal ranking and attributions.
PPP is generally more suitable than nominal GDP per capita for comparing purchasing power across places, but it is not a currency-conversion rate for travel or spending. The IMF describes PPP conversion rates as estimates based on International Comparison Program surveys, extended between survey years using relative GDP deflators. The IMF explains the WEO database and its methods.

What GDP per capita says—and what it does not
GDP per capita is the value of an economy’s output divided by its population. It is an average, so a high figure does not mean that each resident earns that amount, has that amount in savings or assets, or experiences the same standard of living. Output can be unevenly distributed, and the measure does not show what households actually take home or own.
For personal-finance questions such as how much a typical household earns or how wealth is distributed, median disposable income and household-wealth measures are more directly relevant. They answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable with GDP per capita.

How to read the 2025 estimates
The source labels its IMF-based 2025 figures as estimates from the IMF WEO April 2026 vintage. The IMF typically updates the WEO database and publication twice a year, in April and October. Each vintage reflects information available for that exercise; historical data can be revised, and IMF staff estimates may stand in where complete information is unavailable. Figures can therefore differ from other official datasets because of timing, methods, and revisions. Consult the IMF WEO database for its vintage and methodology context.
The World Bank also publishes a GDP-per-capita PPP indicator, which can help with definitions and historical series, but its indicator page does not provide an independently verified 2025 top-20 ranking in the material cited here. World Bank GDP per capita, PPP indicator.
