For a birthday cake shipped to someone in another city, start with the recipient’s address and the date they need it: a service’s “nationwide” wording does not guarantee every product can reach every address on the same schedule. The current 2026 roundup from Goldbelly lists eight cake options—not nine distinct delivery services—and includes two cakes from the same bakery. This guide compares those options as products, then covers direct-order alternatives and the costs and delivery details to check before paying.
What the available birthday cake options are—and what they are not
Goldbelly’s September 4, 2026 roundup is a seller-published selection of cakes available through its marketplace. It does not establish an independently tested ranking. The eight listed options include two products from We Take the Cake, so they should be read as cake choices rather than eight—and certainly not nine—separate services.
| Cake option | What the listing describes | Serving or format detail |
|---|---|---|
| Doan’s Bakery White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake | Bundt cake with white chocolate chunks, cream-cheese frosting, and toasted coconut; the bakery is in Woodland Hills, California. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| Duff Goldman Confetti Birthday Cake | Four layers of confetti golden-butter vanilla cake with vanilla filling; decorated and described as party-ready. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| Flour Shop Rainbow Explosion Cake | A sprinkle-filled center; listed flavors are vanilla, cookies and cream, or chocolate, with a choice of sprinkle color. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| Daisy Cakes Happy Birthday Cake | Chocolate or vanilla cake, with the recipient’s name piped on top according to the listing. | Goldbelly says it serves 16–20. |
| We Take the Cake Birthday Celebration Golden Butter Layer Cake | Four layers with buttercream filling and frosting; the roundup says a plaque and candles are included. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| We Take the Cake Birthday Celebration Chocolate Layer Cake | Chocolate buttermilk cake with chocolate cream-cheese frosting; the roundup says a plaque and candles are included. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| Mo’s Bundt Cakes Happy Birthday Bundt Cake Gift Box | A Bundt cake presented as a ready-to-give gift box. | Serving count not stated in the roundup. |
| Junior’s Famous Brooklyn Cheesecake | A cheesecake alternative to a conventional birthday layer cake. | Goldbelly says the 8-inch serves 12–14 and the 10-inch serves up to 20. |
These descriptions reflect the marketplace’s product copy, not independent tasting or delivery tests. The roundup attributes a “Best Mail Order Cake” honor to InStyle for the We Take the Cake chocolate option, but that award is not independently verified here.
Marketplace, bakery, or gift retailer: which ordering route fits?
Goldbelly for browsing multiple bakeries
A marketplace makes it easier to compare different bakery styles in one place, including Bundt cakes, layer cakes, and cheesecake. Goldbelly says it delivers birthday cakes to all 50 states, but availability and charges can depend on the individual item, destination, and delivery date. Its shipping information says rates are calculated at checkout; additional fees may apply for Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada, and Saturday charges may apply even when another date is marked for free shipping. Free-shipping dates are product- and date-specific.

Milk Bar for a specific branded birthday cake
Milk Bar sells a three-tier, rainbow-flecked vanilla birthday cake with frosting, crunchy crumbs, and sprinkles. Its page lists 6-inch and 10-inch cakes, plus a 6-inch gluten-free variant. The 6-inch version is listed as serving 6–12. When accessed in 2026, the page showed a $65 price for that size; prices and inventory can change, so confirm the current listing before ordering. Milk Bar states that shipping ranges from $15 to $60 depending on destination and delivery date. Its birthday cake page says delivery is available nationwide seven days a week, while excluding U.S. territories, overseas destinations, military addresses, and P.O. boxes.
Milk Bar recommends ordering at least three days ahead for a time-sensitive event and does not guarantee a specific delivery time. The product page lists wheat, eggs, milk, and soy and says its facility processes peanuts and tree nuts. Check the exact gluten-free variant’s current allergen statement rather than assuming the product is free of all relevant allergens.

Harry & David for a broader dessert gift
Harry & David’s dessert listings include Ultimate Chocolate Cake, Flourless Belgian Chocolate Cake, Birthday Cake Bites, and Chocolate Birthday Cake, among other items. Its birthday page describes expedited shipping with guaranteed delivery, but the applicable promise depends on the selected product, recipient address, and date. It is a broader gift retailer with cake and dessert choices, not evidence of a dedicated nationwide custom-cake service.

Ordering checklist for a birthday surprise
- Confirm the guest count. Use the seller’s serving estimate where one is stated; if it is missing, do not assume a standard serving count.
- Enter the delivery address. Check that the product can ship there and inspect the available delivery dates before committing.
- Choose a date with a cushion. Follow the seller’s lead-time guidance and avoid scheduling arrival at the last possible moment for a time-sensitive celebration.
- Review the full checkout total. Add shipping and any date-specific charges to the cake price before comparing options.
- Check the exact cake’s details. Confirm flavor, size, included decorations, personalization, storage and serving instructions, and current allergen information.
- Verify gift presentation. If candles or a birthday message matter, check whether they come with the cake or need to be arranged separately.
