The comparison is based on model-year production totals, not a single calendar year of retail sales: a 2025 report counted 194,969 C8s against 189,507 C7s, while an unofficial compiled total lists 220,153 C8s through model year 2026.
Did the C8 Corvette outsell the C7?
By cumulative generation totals, yes: Corvette Blogger reported 194,969 C8 units after six model years, 5,462 more than the C7’s 189,507. The figures describe production across each generation, rather than a direct comparison of retail sales in a particular calendar year. Corvette Blogger’s 2025 comparison gives the six-model-year snapshot.
What does “sales” mean in this comparison?
The available generation totals are best described as production totals. The EPA says its model-year volumes represent production delivered for sale in the United States by model year, and may differ from publicized calendar-year sales. That distinction matters: model-year production and calendar-year sales use different time bases and should not be combined as though they were the same measure. The EPA’s automotive-trends methodology explains the measurement.
Where does the C8 rank among Corvette generations?
A compiled generation table accessed in 2026 places the C8 fifth, with an unofficial total of 220,153 through model year 2026. It sits behind the C5 and ahead of the C6. The table includes eight generations; the order below follows its reported cumulative totals. VetteFacts’ generation table marks the C8’s 2026 figure as unofficial.

How much did the C8 produce in recent model years?
Model year 2025
The National Corvette Museum reported 25,835 C8 units for model year 2025. This is a single-year model-year figure, not the generation’s cumulative total. The Museum’s 2025 production report provides the historical count.

Model year 2023 and a comparison with 1979
Corvette Blogger reported 53,785 C8 units for 2023 and compared that with 53,807 Corvettes in 1979. The displayed counts differ by 22 units, although the article’s text describes the gap as 23; the arithmetic from those published figures is 22. The same 2025 report provides both counts.
Why did the C8 take time to build its cumulative lead?
Corvette Blogger attributes early C8 production challenges to the Bowling Green plant retooling, COVID-related disruptions, and parts shortages. It also notes that the Z06 arrived later in the C8 lifecycle than it had for the C6 and C7. These are contextual explanations from that report; it does not quantify how many units each factor affected. The C8 began with model year 2020, while the C7 covered model years 2014–2019, so the generations also had different production windows at the time of the six-model-year comparison.

How certain is the fifth-place total?
The crossover against the C7 is supported by the 2025 six-model-year comparison. The higher C8 total of 220,153 and the associated fifth-place ranking come from a secondary compiled table and are explicitly unofficial for 2026, rather than an official final production statement. The Museum’s 2025 report offers a primary historical count for that model year, but it is not itself a cumulative 2026 tally.
